Looking at getting a C5 Corvette. I have already tested out a C5 Z06 and deemed that I'd have way too much fun in it. This seems like it's a very reasonable price, and it's a color I really like and an interior that I like as well. It has HUD as well which is a feature I like.
What are your thoughts on this? Possibly a good buy?

Nice looking car, but once you've driven a Z, this one will pale by comparison..........
Did you check for codes yet? Looks like a nice car but looks can be deceiving. Wonder whats going on with the plates, front no rear? Front plate would indicate the car is not a Cali native. Good luck with your hunt. Mike
Was worth looking at the listing just to read the write up. That was entertaining. Must be a calif dealer..............the write up was straight out of Hollywood.
The car in the link is not a Z06 but still a nice looking coupe. If you are serious about it make sure you at least check the oil pressure via the DIC. The gage in the pic is pegged at 80 psi at idle. Red flag for defective oil pressure sending unit!

Oil sending unit is no big deal. Very common in these cars. Looks good. However, looks can be deceiving! Take it for a ride and if possible to a mechanic you trust. These are good cars, basically bulletproof engines with some electrical demons at times. Your car will find you. If you don't feel good about it, pass. If it calls to you, then buy it and have some fun. There are always other owners willing to help you. Good luck!!

Car appears to be bone stock... like others have said READ the STICKY... check the CODES... DRIVE the car and get HELP from someone that KNOWS C5 corvettes... looks like a nice car... very well detailed...
Good luck
They claim it has a 2.73 rear end ratio and an optispark ignition system, so you can assume they don't know what they're talking about.
Other than that the car looks great, and is a pretty good price. Don't let the fun of a c5z scare you away
He's right ya know...
Std. Axle Ratio 3.42:1 Six Speed
The Optispark was used in the LT-1
Ever since they were introduced, distributorless ignition systems (DIS) have delivered reliability and efficiency, and have greatly improved ignition spark energy over conventional single coil distributor ignition systems. DIS, also called “coil pack” ignition, is so powerful and efficient that the “big three” American automobile manufacturers have switched over to this type of ignition system for all of their current V8 engines.
Photos look nice, but looks can be deceiving. Read the stickies at the top of this page. Vehicle history and maintenance records are a must. Have the car checked, bumper to bumper by a shop/tech (Not theirs!) who knows C5's intimately. Ask questions, members of this forum are incredibly helpful. Be very careful, a well chosen C5 is a delight. A problem C5 can be a very expensive and frustrating experience. Good luck and best wishes! By the way, as nice as C5's are, Z06's are an incredible step up if you are someone who really enjoys performance driving.
Since you're looking here in California, walk away from that thing. Small iron-lot dealer, obviously doesn't know jack about the car. For the folks who don't live out West, Corvettes, and especially C5s, are dime a dozen out here, and there are plenty of much lower mileage examples out there.
I recently picked up my 2004 A4, Machine Silver with 3:15s, Z51 and loaded with 1SB/1SZ, with 66K, for $13250. Yes, it needed tires and brakes, as well as some overall love, but still an example of what kind of beating C5s are taking here in California.

Where did you find a deal like that?? Was it from a private seller or a dealer?

It really wasn't that great of a deal; the wholesale on the car was $13.5K. The seller wanted 15K, I hit him at 12.5K based on toasted tires, bad running and creaks galore... We ended up at 13250. Again, not that stellar of a deal, considering that I've had to put $2K into her in the last couple of months, but my point is that here in SoCal, C5s are flooding the market and prices are plummeting. I've seen '01s with some miles for 10K, so keep looking. Here's some typical SoCal stuff:
Remember, people list cars for quite a bit more than they generally want. If you're respectful and point out exactly why your offer comes in as it is, i.e. tires, brakes, paint, interior... people tend to go with it when they see an envelope full of cash. Just my fairly extensive buying experience.

That boiler-plate vehicle description is a real turn-off. I like the color combo. At those miles I would see how much they will contribute towards cost of extended warranty. When stuff goes wrong on these it can be expensive.

Those are some good examples, probably didn't see them before because I was searching for manual transmissions only. I would really prefer the 6 speed manual over the auto.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
