Scenic Drives: PA, MA, ME, NH, VT
My wife and I are taking another Vette trip.
Leaving northeast Ohio and traveling via PA, through part of NY and Massachusetts, to Maine. We plan to leave Maine and travel through the middle and upper part, through northern New Hampshire, cross Lake Champlain at Burlington (ferry!) through the northern portion of NY and visit Cooperstown on our way back.
We like to get off the interstates for a lot of the time.
Any recommended great drives along this general itinerary??

No recommendation on the drives, but if you can spend some time in Burlington there are some fantastic brew pubs there and IMO Vermont has the best beer in the country. I took a beercation with a couple of my buddies in June and Burlington was amazing.

If you want to stop off in Lancaster County PA we can grab lunch or something, its kind of scenic with all the Farmland, Amish, Horse and Buggies etc. When is this trip Mike?

I'd suggest Acadia National Park while in Maine. Can't really go wrong along the rocky cost either. Lots of covered bridges in Vermont. Have fun and safe travels.

If Vermont Pub and Brewery is still in Burlington the Smoked Porter is a great after dinner meal all by itself.

rt 6 and anything through the Allegheny forest is decent in northern PA. I always use this site to plan road trips:

Route 6 across northern PA is a must. Stop and see the Grand Canyon of PA (Leonard Harrison State Park -- east side, because all the roads are paved), near Wellsboro. The main street through Wellsboro is one of the most picturesque streets in the northeast. It's easy to jump up to New York state from any point on Rt. 6.

We're baaaaack!!!
We made the trip- didn't see everything, there is just too much to see, and thanks to all who commented.
Stats:
- 2223 miles
- 27.8 MPG
What a car!!! It performed flawlwssly- cool, comfortable. Had one time I thought the temp got too high- 230 or so crossing the Tappanzee Bridge in traffic and 87 degrees heat - clicked on the A/C, and it dropped back to normal 190-195 within about 3 minutes.
We probably only saw 10 'Vettes the whole way (except at the Chevrolet dealer just outside West Point- who has a quite a stock of C6's and some C7s. 1- C5 that we saw.)
Travels:
Leaving northern Ohio, 2 hours to Pittsburgh to see some friends, then across PA to near Valley Forge. Toured VF next morning, and then the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville that afternoon- terrific!! Strongly recommend this tour!!
Next through NJ, across the Tappanzee Bridge then north along the Hudson through Sleepy Hollow, NY. By mistake, found Sing Sing Prison (!!) there being no rooms available on short notice and without a court appearance, we went back across the Hudson and stayed near West Point. The Hudson, which I had never seen, is magnificent!!
Next day toured WP, and drove east across the rest of NY, CT, and MA (We had already done a week in Massachusetts about 10 years ago) to Maine. Terrible crowds and high room prices- $ 230 for a Best Western??!! Toured for two days, LL Bean of course, lobster of course, and the ME shoreline.
Leaving Maine, found and traveled ME 113 up to New Hampshire, (strongly recommended!!!) Route 302 around and through the White Mountains (incl. Mt. Washington). Then interstates on through Vermont for an overnight in Burlington. Great meal at the Windjammer Restaurant near the university in Burlington (strongly recommended!!).
Left Burlington, across Lake Champlain, and via back roads in NY- New York Highway 22, and US Highways 4 and 9 (the "Lakes to Locks Passage") south. Next, to Cooperstown via "Scenic Route 20" (I live near Route 20, in Ohio). Toured the National Baseball HOF (too much to take in- we just looked at pics, videos, and didn't READ any of the wealth of information) then to Utica, overnight.
Last day- south to US Route 6 and through the "Grand Canyon of the East" (will never be a threat to the Grand Canyon of the West- but beautiful hills trees, and towns.)
Home!!!

Mike, you had a great tour of the northeast and I'm glad you liked it. Next time you come this way, plan on being near Bear Mountain (which you probably saw signs for when you were going/coming to West Point), on Wednesday from May thru Sept. Its a 400 car minimum cruise nite in a beautiful venue.
btw, I'm surprised I didn't see you! LOL
BBTW, did you go to the top of Mt. Washington?
