Is it possible to check what repairs were done at a dealership on a used private car?
Hey, I am interested in a 2002 Z06 with roughly 60K miles on it, but the current owner said that the previous owner had the engine replaced under factory warranty around 32K miles ago but they have no paperwork and claim to have tried to get the paperwork from the previous owner when they bought the car but couldn't get it for some reason.
I know it does sound fishy but I was wondering if it was possible to get the records of the work done at a dealership somehow? I got the carfax, and it did not appear there...

if it was done at dealer under warranty it should be there...any dealer can get it for you

thanks so much for the ultra quick reply. I did try to post a message on a thread where Gene Culley from Cultrag performance offered free GMVIS report, but not sure if he still does.
Any other way to get it online or would I need to go to a dealership?

Or if you are on good terms with your local dealer, they may run the report for you based on the VIN.

The GMVIS should also show the original delivery information and a list of equipment installed on the car.

This. Talk to one of the Service Writers or the dealership Service Manager. The report should show any work done on the car at a dealership even if it was not warranty work. Simple things like oil changes done at a dealership should show up. The factory warranty was 3 years or 36K miles from the date the car was placed into service. If the previous owner bought the GM extended Warranty (or GMPP), an engine replacement could have very well been covered after the original warranty expired in 2005.
The GMVIS should also show the original delivery information and a list of equipment installed on the car.

Thanks everyone, I will do just that. I had no idea it was even a thing that you could ask
Much appreciated.

I was told by the Service Manager at the local dealer that ALL warranted work is available on the VIS. BUT NON warranted work could only be accessed with permission from the previous owner
