Was able to spend some time on the car today. Installed Hinson motor mounts, the monster LT1-S clutch, new slave cylinder and the ATI balancer. I had to take x-pipe and tunnel plate out to get the bell housing out so I could remove the slave. Put engine in from the side and didn't have to remove the hood. I wasn't sure if I'd have enough room with the heads on but it worked out fine. Lining up the engine to the torque tube was a major pain by myself but I finally got it.

You work fast. I've been working on an L92 swap for I don't want to admit how long now.

Great work, you are moving. The biggest PITA for me was also reinstalling the motor, I failed the first time I did it and had to install the bell housing to block, disconnect slave cylinder line to eliminate hydraulic pressure working against me and also loosened the clutch bolts.

I ran into a few issues tonight...ugh.

First when bolting up the upper control arms, one of the threaded inserts is stripped and bolt wouldn't tighten. Car has been apart before so probably happened then. Anyone have to deal with this issue before? Knock out the old and put in a new heli coil? Want to get this right since it's a critical attachment point for suspension.

Second issue, and one I'm not looking forward to fixing. When the car is in gear I can spin the tires like the car is in neutral. Something must be up with the clutch but I'm not sure what. I installed it per Monsters instructions and it's really hard to mess it up. Can only go on one way. I'm leaving the engine where it is and if I have to pull the torque tube out the rear suspension will be dropping.

Is the control arm bolt hole stripped or just a couple threads cross threaded. IIRC it's m10 x 1.5 bolt hole, don't quote me on that but it seems correct, I know I cross threaded a couple threads when reinstalling one of the bolt holes because I hadn't loaded the suspension enough and had to run a tap through it to correct.

Yes, 10x1.5 hole. It's not cross threaded. I can almost push the bolt into the hole...very loose. It will thread in but I can't tighten it. Will probably need to replace with helicoil or nutsert

not sure if this helps, but I once reinstalled a used Diamond clutch onto my 6.0 LQ4 after rebuilding the engine. I had the same issue as you, the wheels would spin while the trans was in gear. I rolled the dice and put it back together anyhow. The clutch slipped pretty bad for the first ride around the block, but then decided to hold, and I never had another issue with it. I chalked it up to grease/oil/brake parts cleaner on the surfaces, which could have caused loss of friction between those parts. Whatever heat occurred from driving around cleaned/burned off all that stuff.

Just my 2 cents

I was thinking the same...might grab once it's rotated and gets some friction. I'm calling Monster today to see what they say. I cleaned the disc, flywheel, and pressure plate surfaces with brake cleaner so everything should be clean.

Just spoke with Steve @ Monster Clucth. I was overthinking things and a I guess a bit paranoid . With car in the air the differential gears will let the tires spin.

Could try helicoil or go up to the next size bolt and tap and/or helicoil. If you go up a size remember to use grade 8 hardware.

In my experience we all do dumb stuff. Every time I work on my car it seems I break something due to impatience or just general lack of thought.

But I thought when you said tires (plural) you were turning both in the same direction.

Yup, I was just overthinking things. One tire would spin forward and the other one backwards. Now I can move forward and get the rest of the work done so I can fire it up soon.

Intake is on and most of the harness is hooked up. Hope to get some more done tomorrow after work. The LS3 intake cover had to be removed...it was hitting the cowl.

You are hauling on this job, looks like you only need one solid day to go to till you get to turn the key and start it up.
