My 2002 Z06 got hit at work
Parked my car in my usual space and, as I was exiting the car, another employee swings into the space alongside me and winds up hitting my driver's side door. The door overextended which damn near ripped the door off of the hinges.
Car is in the shop being torn down for repairs and I am being told that there are no new doors available so they have to locate, and install, a suitable used door (not happy about that).
Aside from the usual fitment, paint blend concerns are there any other things I should be on the look out for? The car is millennium yellow so I am a little worried that they won't be able to paint match the rest of the car.
I am sick that my car is damaged but, that's already done and I have to move on.

Id be worried that this kind of hit could also have damaged the spot where the door hinge attaches to the body of the car. Saw pics recently here where that location cracked from a similar accident. Id look at that area closely. Sucks that they have to give you a used door especially since they are all going to be 12+ years old now. This is one more reason why I dont DD my c5. Too many careless people out there that dont give two ***** about their own cars let alone nice vehicles like ours.

Thanks for the heads up about that area; I will be sure to mention that to the adjuster. Are you referring to the plastic door jam area or the metal frame underneath? Just want to make sure we're looking at the right part.

The area of the door jamb where your door hinges attach to the car body. That could have been messed up badly in an accident like yours and can be difficult to repair correctly.

If the shop has any skill they should be able to match paint without any blending. My DD '95 M3 got rear ended badly, shop I used repainted the rear and one of the doors (had clear coat failure starting) with no blending and matched the paint perfect. (Hellrot, bright red and was 13yrs old at the time)

I am crossing my fingers that they can get it right. I am just so pissed that my car is damaged; I tried to keep it so nice and in an instant one lone jackass changes everything.

Picked up the car today and the body shop did wonderful job of matching the paint. There are a few things that I will need them to correct though.
They painted the entire side of the car and must have removed the Z06 emblem. When they reinstalled it they didn't place it in the right location; it is too high and too far back on the fender. Is there a template I can download that will show the correct location of this emblem?
The two-sided tape that they used is also too thick; the emblem sticks out from the fender too much. Is there a preferred tape for this type of thing?
Then there is a small area of orange peel that will need correcting.
Last but, not least, are the three stickers found on the driver's side door jamb. When they replaced the door my stickers stayed with the original door. The body shop said these cannot be transferred and they'd have to order reproductions. Are these reproduced and, if so, are they good reproductions? Can I get all three? I had two that listed VIN and option codes and then there was one that said "The Legend Lives" with the Corvette flag. Is that one available too?
I want my car to be just like it was before it got hit; am I being too **** about these things? I don't think so.

So I took the car back to the bodyshop as there are a few things that bothered me.
First, there is a small area of orange peel above the driver's side door handle near the outer weather-strip.
Then there is the Z06 emblem; when they installed the replacement door the shop sprayed the whole side of the car in order to ensure a paint color match. They had to remove the Z06 emblem but, when the reinstalled it, they put it in the wrong location and, in my opinion, used too thick of double sided tape to fasten it.
The shop manager said the orange peel is an easy fix. The emblem, which he claims is no longer available, will take some care to safely remove and place in the correct location. When I asked about using a thinner tape I was told that they used the thinnest tape they have and, if they used any thinner, the emblem might not stick. I asked him what type of tape did GM use since the emblem is much tighter to the car; he neglected to answer that one.
All in all I am happy with the repair but, I want it to be 100% or as close as possible since this damage was not my fault. Oh and I still need to get the replacement door jamb decals ordered and installed too.

I think I just might do that. Any idea where I can buy the right 3M tape? I don't need a whole lot so buying a huge roll from a auto paint supply shop might not make sense.

Last time i bought some it was from amazon, but maybe you can get it at your local hardware/home depot.
