Default T1 Front/C6 Z06 Rear Sway on C5Z

Hey folks,

My recently acquired C5Z came with a set of C6Z shocks and front & rear sway bars on it. Initial driving impressions - A bit too much oversteer. Read that this can be the case with the big rear sway on a C5... In any case, my thought is to either swap out the rear sway for a smaller one (C6 Z51 possibly) or swap out the front sway for a larger one like the T1 bar.

Now, I realize the T1 will have a different spring rate than the C6 Z06 rear but I don't know if that'll matter or not. For that reason, I would love any insight/feedback anyone could provide. Is anyone running this set up, or any opinions on doing so?

Unless you track your car you wouldn't necessarily notice a difference between the 2. If you really have concerns sell your current setup and go back to stock C5Z sways.

Probably should’ve mentioned that the primary use of the car will be HPDE and autocross.

What size rubber will you be running for autocross and HPDE? I have read that bigger rubber out back will work very well with the C6Z bars front and rear. If you are running less than a 325 in the rear the recommendations seem to be go C6 Z51 bar in rear...the C6Z rear bar is too much bar for most people.

Planning on a 305/35 square setup. Yeah, that’s why I’m wondering if it would be a better move to downsize the rear sway or upsize the front to balance the setup one way or the other. The C6Z rear sway is close in size to the T1 rear, being the reason I thought adding just the T1 front could possibly be a good move.

So, at this point, I’m thinking either add T1 front and keep C6Z rear, or add Hotchkis adjustable rear and keep C6Z front. Not sure which would be the better move. My abilities on the track are mediocre at this point... If that helps. I’m not yet out driving my stock C5Z brakes.

You're are mismatching to much with the front and rear. The car needs to be balanced from front to back hence why I said go with OEM C5Z. Several guys have this config and the car is MORE than capable! This goes the same for the brakes. No need to go with bigger brakes, what you need are a good set of pads, steel braided lines, and race fluid to keep temps in check.

BTW, the T1 rear is 1mm larger then the C6Z so it would be pointless.

With all due respect, I don't think that's right... The C6Z rear sway bar is 27.9mm whereas the T1 rear bar is 27.5mm. So, the C6Z is actually a touch larger.

Oops, was looking at the wrong bar, so yes you are correct in that sense, however, I still stand by my previous statement that you are better off to go back to a C5Z OEM setup. In any case, here is a chart for reference to make an informed choice;

Swaybars:
C5 Base Suspension: 23 mm-front / 19.1 mm-rear
C5 Z51 (97-99): 25.4 mm-front / 21.7 mm-rear
C5 Z51 (00-04): 28.6 mm-front / 23.6 mm-rear
C5 Z06: 30.0 mm-front / 23.6 mm-rear
C6 Z51: 31 mm-front / 25.4 mm (1")-rear
C6 Z06: 31 mm-front / 28.8 mm-rear
C5 Hotchkis: 31.75 mm-front / 25.4 mm-rear
C5/C6 Addco: 32 mm-front / 25.4 mm-rear
C5/C6 Addco: 35 mm-front / 25.4 mm-rear
C5 Pfadt (Adjustables): 32 mm-front / 26 mm-rear
C5 Pfadt (Adjustables): 35 mm-front / 28.5 mm-rear
C5 T1 (GM Racing): 38.4 mm-front / 27.5 mm-rear
C6 T1 (GM Racing): 38.4 mm-front / 27.5 mm-rear
