C5 DRL OEM socket - on a budget
I replaced my passenger side DRL socket. It was getting rusty and I was trying to troubleshoot a hyperflash issue with my halo taillights.
I was looking for the Dorman 85882 but for some reason I couldn't find it in Canada at our major parts stores. And I didn't want to wait to order it.
So I called a local Chev dealership and got a price on an OEM socket, part number 12083689 or AC Delco LS15. Price in Canadian dollars? $91.68
So I did some searching and found out there is a string of cars built in the 2004-2005 years that had the exact same socket. Cars include Blazer, S10, Alero, Sunfire, Grand Am, Cavalier, Aztek and a few more.
I went to Pick n Pull, found a 2004 Cavalier and this socket it is in the front headlight housing. It is perfect, even came with a nice plastic wire protector on it. I grabbed one from another car as a backup. Total price for two OEM DRL sockets came to about $7, which is about $5 USD.
I know the Dorman is cheaper but I wanted an OEM socket. And if you poke around you can find some that are brand new. They are nice and high up on the cars so they have zero corrosion or wear on them.
If you go to GM Parts Direct, put in the part number you are looking for and scroll down the page. It will say This Part Fits: and show a list of cars the part will fit on.

Thanks for posting up the info on this. I'm sure it will help someone else looking to replace those sockets.
