2004 z16
I am unsure if I can get advice here, or if this is particular discussion is only once a sales price has been determined. If the latter, please forgive my question and I will move to another forum. However, I have a 2004 Z06 commemorative edition and am hoping to get some guidance on what a fair asking price might be. A local used Corvette dealer offered $12,000, yet I have seen lower mileage Z16s going for well over $20K.
Mine is high mileage (110,000), but has never had as much as a parking lot ding (I always park away from other cars). It has the following mods (all original parts retained):
Short throw sport shifter
Headers and flow through exhaust system
High flow air filter
Custom 3M front end protector
Shoulder straps with fire protector mount (track ready but only tracked once)
Leather accents in contrasting red (on the black interior)
Single owner since purchase at 4,000 miles
The interior is perfect except for a 1" tear on the driver's seat side bolster.
I am NOT looking for bids here, and am truly looking only for some advice. If I need to repost elsewhere, please let me know that too. Thanks.

People seem to freak out about a Corvette with over 100k for some odd reason. I think it has to do with so many low mileage cars out there. That being said, the C5 has taken a huge hit. I saw a black on black vert with less than 100k for sale for $9k. That's when I decided to put a few bucks into mine and drive it until it dies.

I agree that a dealership will build in a profit margin and try to buy from you as low as possible. If you have time on your side, consider selling it yourself. Also, if you can wait until spring, you will have a higher probability of getting a better price. That is when people are most "hungry" to buy.

Also figure in the tax benefits to trading in if you're trading in for a different vehicle. Not all states work this way, but for me, that 12,000 trade in would actually be worth $12,840. Not much but it all factors in.

A dealer will always give you a lowball price on a trade - they want to maximize their profit margin should they keep the car for resale. You would of course be much better off financially if you sell it yourself (if you have the time and patience), and I would imagine you could ask in the $17-18K range and see what happens. The Z16 cars were one of the best looking C5s made and of course being a Z06 it has all the performance goodies that a buyer would look for in a pretty much stock car.

How it works . The GM dealer has jacked the price of whatever up $10-12,000 or GM has given it to them ( you have to understand how that works long story ) so they will knock off half of that to lets say $5,000 so what your getting is really $5-6,000 for your C-5 Corvette ,they will drive it around back with the other car going to the sale when they get enough cars will load them up and go to the sale with them and get whatever they can get ..$12,000 is $12,000 anyway you want to look at it . Its called lot space and lot space has a value the old C-5 is not profitable to the lot space ,takes too long to sell Corvettes and are a niche market so off to the sale .. Would better for someone to buy your old Z16 ( witch is one of the best C-5 ever made ) have real money to deal with and have someone some one that knows what the Z-16 is and might enjoy it for what it is . We have lots of GM managers used car salesman and on and on in our club we get insider info .. Just an FYI..

Thanks very much to all who responded. It was very helpful in calibrating my expectations of a fair private party resale price. Given the condition of the car, the mods I added (especially the headers and flow-thought exhaust), I will be asking $17,500. If that does not work, I will likely wait till Spring and try again.

No, this is the proper place to find out what a seller should ask for his/her car or part. Once you go to the sales section, you've got to post the ad with an asking price in it. It's even against forum rules for someone in that sales thread to tell you what you should be asking.

Well this thread started in the for sale section to begin with.
You didn't make any sense with this post.. When this ad started it started in the for sale section of this forum with no price in the ad... and i told the OP that maybe a moderator would move it to the proper area of the forum.. And someone did move it to the General section.
Not sure why this was posted i didn't say anything about price but many others did.

A dealer will always lowball you. Check out the used car prices on nadaguides, Edmunds, and KBB. Enter all the information on your car - miles, options, etc. and those sites will give you an approximate value.
Find a For Sale sign, put on a price that seems reasonable to you, then try to sell your car.
