FR500C[edit]
Ford Mustang FR500C GT4
Powered by a 5.0L "Cammer R50" engine, it delivers 420 hp (313 kW). It includes a Tremec T56 6-speed transmission and other race-spec parts including a Grand Am-spec rollcage. It is permitted to be used in the Grand Am Grand Sport (GS) Class.[1]
The FR500C can either be obtained as a turnkey costing $125,000 or by modding an existing Mustang GT with specified parts from Ford Racing.[2]
It is also known by its nickname "Boy Racer", assigned by Ford executives.
This model won the manufacturers title in the Koni Challenge racing series in 2005 & 2008. This was after several attempts to slow the car down- such as a rearend gears change and additional weight.
FR500S[edit]
Powered by Ford's 4.6L V8 engine, it is rated at 325HP. The FR500S is often slotted in between the FR500C ('Boy Racer') and FR500GT ('Man Racer'). The car was designed by both Ford Racing and Miller Motorsports for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series (a racing series founded by Larry Miller). The car features similar aerodynamic parts like those used on the FR500GT, but uses a DOT approved racing[3] tire- BFGoodrich g-Force R1.
With the end of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge,[4] the FR500S has been homologated for competition in the SCCA World Challenge GTS class.
FR500GT[edit]
Codenamed Man Racer, the 5.0L V8 engine is rated at 550 hp (410 kW). This model features all of the features of a full race car, from heavily modified suspension to the large aerodynamic parts (which are effective). It also uses a 5.0L V8 engine built by Roush/Yates.

Suck it up, Corvette's are great, but tons of other cars these days can run with them on the street and the track. That is a good thing.

Up your power a bit (cam ,headers, tune) and put some good tires on it and try again.
Those Bridgestones are probably costing you a few seconds per lap.

lol, takes Ford years and years to catch up with what GM has been doing for a long time. Maybe in a few years they'll have something that can actually keep up with a C6 Z06. Right around the time the C8 comes out. At least it's more than Chrysler can say...well, FCA.
I highly doubt there are still that many cars that can compete with a C5 Z06 let alone the newer Z's. I looked all over for anything out there, and there's nothing that comes close unless you want to spend big dollars. I'm not into dropping $50k on a car, don't need to spend that much to enjoy driving. And the stuff that is that expensive now, merely comes close to the Z and many times still can't beat it or only barely does. Only thing I'd consider replacing the C5Z with is a C6Z, but they'd need to come down in price.
Vettes are proven reliable too. I'd have zero faith in that Ford engine, and it's a new one on top of it. Ecoboost engines are already starting to have problems as more people get them near 100k miles, I didn't have that much faith in my 5.0 Mustang when I had it (But I had warranty, and planned to sell it when it ran out).

I'm surprised it was that close. The Z had more weight/HP to carry around on less/inferior rubber. I still prefer the Z but then I'm biased anyway. Great video!!

I have to give credit to not only mustang but American manufacturers in general, they are really making some very cool cars with a ton of power.
I would of thought the Z would of gained more ground on the corners , but ive never been on a track so what do I know
Anyways the new mustangs are cool but I dont think id ever own one
I really like the challenger SRT's, big heavy cow of a car but for some reason I really like them

They're really all disappointing. Drove one of each (GT, SS, R/T). Mind you it was a few years ago so the newest Mustang and Camaro were not out yet. I rather find the C5Z as well as my Nissan of the same vintage to have a simple but functional interior, as opposed to the Camaro and Challenger which was just patently ugly for a car that was so new and awfully low rent. Mustang interior slightly better, but looks like (and is) an updated 2005 interior that even shares some of the same parts. Each of them felt respectable power wise, but a joke compared to even a base C5. I mean hell, these new ones have all this power but they feel exactly on par with a 4th gen Camaro Z28. Just updated with more large pillars and designs that make them hard to see out of.
The only ones that even feel worth it are the performance variants: GT500, ZL1, and SRT 392. But now you're talking $35k+ used and $50k+ new and those really only address the performance aspect, does nothing for the poor visibility and cheap interiors. Plus I consider it a con to be a part of the bickering feud that is Mustang vs Camaro vs Challenger. When you have Corvette, you're automatically exonerated from their petty squabbles. Idiots tried to race me all the time in the Mustang, but they leave me alone in the C5Z so far (Now random Grand Marquis, Altimas, and the family minivan are all racing past me everywhere ).

Scares me that you say the Mustang has the nicer interior, seen one and was really disappointed.
If for some reason I was forced to dump my Z I'd go one of M3, AMG, maybe C6 (?), really don't know.

Gotta say, not one of them is as nice inside as our old C5's IMO. At least ours have a cockpit type look and feel. Yes, the radio and heater controls look a tad outdated.
All of those you showed look almost like they belong in an old station wagon.
