Yep seems so ... guess we need to start calling it a 'lever' instead of a 'shifter' then ????

Well there's your problem. Comparing the two, the corvette shifter will be a ton better. That doesn't make the corvette shifter good, its just like going from my 92 toyota pickup to my wife's 05 corolla. The corolla isn't fast, but when you compare it to the pickup it's a rocket.

And a lot of people will reiterate the same "The slop isn't in the shifter its in the transmission" because that's what they've heard. While it is somewhat true, the difference in leverage minimizes the feel of the slop greatly, which makes the slop a non-issue with a better shifter.

Again, not to say that there's something inherently wrong with the stock shifter, but a couple hundred bucks and 15 minutes to install it can make it 10 times better, so why not?

God forbid someone (literally read my previous post) call the transaxle a transmission

The factory shifter is tight, accurate, than you installed an aftermarket shifter and realize how ridiculous the factory shifter was.

I went with the C6 shifter in my 1998, I like it much better.

Mine's got a pretty ideal feel to it too, I have no idea what others are talking about with it being sloppy.

A bit of a longer than needed, but whatever.

Exactly right. As always, ignorance is bliss.

Could be. I know I installed one of the MGW shifters in my Viper and I just shudder at the thought of that shifter. Awful. Like toggling a switch. But everyone loves them. I couldn't bare to have that in the C5... I wish there was a happy medium upgrade. Slightly shorter throws, slightly better angle etc...

MGW is what I have, it just feels more like it is in gear, like a switch, thats a good thing Mine you can do adjustment for angle and stiffness.

My stock shifter felt like I was driving a truck. I had the MGW installed. Initially, it was too hard to shift, so I had them lengthen it about an inch. (The stick was threaded, so it was easy to let it out some). It's better than stock, but it's not way better. I'd prefer something smoother, but I'm too much of a klutz to try the anti-venom mod and am happy enough with things the way the are to focus on other things.

Sandy! The anti venom mod is as close to klutz proof as one can get. Don't be afraid of it! I've done it twice, one washer each time.

for me the anti-venom mod is no improvement on the factory shifter. Looking forward to going with a shifter upgrade later this year.

Opinion on C6 Z shifter vs stock? The biggest thing I see wrong with stock C5 shifter is the length of the throw.

I shortened my stock shifter 3/4", installed a 1-7/8" custom white ball that sits right at the boot, added one washer for the Anti Venom mod, and overall I have no complaints, on occasion 1st can be a little fussy, and you lose some leverage for reverse, all other gears are very smooth, I have no plans to change it.

When I bought my Frc it had a b&m shifter in it. I did not like it at all the shifter was obnoxiously notchy and the throws were not all that short. A fellow forum member gave me a factory shifter and I installed it but I was not happy with the way it felt either. I then got out the tap and die set and threaded the stock shifter as far down as I could until it started to flare out and cut off the excess material. The shifter for me is now the perfect length and almost the perfect feel. The only thing I do not like about it is the ruber material that gm used to isolate the upper and lower lever is to soft. I want to remove the soft rubber and somehow get something like polyurethane in there.

For cruising around, daily driving the stock shifter does its job. When racing is when you really notice how sloppy it is. I installed an MGW on mine shortly after I got it, much more solid and precise shifts than the stocker.

Stock shifters are great, as long as it is a C6 shifter. The best way to go IMO without sacrificing the factory look. Going from a stock C5 to a C6 shifter makes a night and day difference and for sure ups the driving enjoyment.
