Default AC Delco PF46E oil filter socket

I'm looking for an oil filter socket that will fit the PF46E. I was changing the oil today and the oil filter was on tight. The headers get in the way of a traditional oil filter wrench, so I want to make things easier next time. Thanks in advance.

Me too... they are inexpensive ( not cheap ).
also an fyi. If you ever get into a situation where you can't remove an oil filter, here is an old trick. ( with a catch can underneath , drive a screw driver through the can/ allow the oil to drain then turn the screwdriver, counterclockwise. Make sure there is clearance to turn clockwise from your entry point. with just a 1/4 turn , you can then remove the filter by hand.

If you drive the screw driver slightly down, the oil will run down the shaft of the screw driver toward the lower side. or you can pull out the screw driver from just the one side leaving the other side blocked with the shaft

The number on my socket wrench is KD2790 and it is 3 inch.

Next time you're at the auto parts store, open up the box, take the filter out and see which one of the filter wrenches shown above fits it the best.

there are cast aluminum versions of these also available that are considerably better. the stamped steel can flex and slip on a tight filter. the alloy ones do not. they are often 4-5x the cost but it's truly a snap on vs home depot quality comparison. you'll pay $25 for a nice aluminum one but it won't let you down

Yeah, I think I will do that. I found a cast aluminum 3" 15 flutes oil socket online at Walmart for $13 and some change shipped. I'm going to test a cheap one on a PF46E just to be sure it fits and then buy the better one online. Thanks

This is what I use. Works on all size filters and super easy to use.

The socket types work well. Odd with mine but on the occasional GM filter I will have to tap the filter out of the socket on the vice. Some just seem to deflect a little and get stuck but they certainly make it easier to get them off.

MBVette never seen one like that, pretty cool design. Does it work in a tight area?

Never had any problem getting it on a filter. Used it on a few different cars without any issue

Where did you find an oil filter wrench like that? Manufacturer, place bought, product number if known? Thanks.

I've been using this strap type for years in tight places. Just put ratchet wrench on the end and it fits any size filter
