Do what's comfortable. You'll know when you feel it.
I drove from LA to Manitoba straight through, first 24 hrs was me then a three hour nap while
The wife took over and then me for the last 9 hours home.
Enjoy it, if you're feeeling tired, take a rest, have a coffee and go again.
My trip was in a '96 Z28 Vert. The trip down was 3 stops (Lincoln Nebraska then Amarillo Tx and then this tiny town in AZ. Sitting in a condo in Beverly Hills Thursday night my wife told me she had to be back at work Sunday 7 am. We left Friday morning and got back home Saturday night.
I would split the driving into two days. Manual vs auto? Lots of traffic or not?
When we drove to Vermont (about 570 miles) I was so happy to be zipping along in my Z06, then we hit the Washington Bridge. No need to go to the gym when you are stuck in traffic and shifting. A trip that was meant to last 8.5 hours turned into 10 hours.
Make sure to take into consideration all the traffic you might encounter and that your gym membership is up to date. (if driving manual).
You can plan to do it in one day but be prepared to break it up into two if necessary. It is better to arrive late and alive.
As far as comfort, the C5 for me is awesome! I have stock seats in my Z06. The key is to keep hydrated and stop to stretch and get your circulation going again. You don't want to form blood clots.
I keep beverages and snacks readily available during the drive. Any time I stop, the car gets fuel. Think of your stops as "bundling". You don't stop just for one thing.
I think your 12 hours is overly optimistic. I use 60 MPH as my speed to calculate drive time. This factors in fuel and food stops. 1000 miles = 16.7 hrs
I flew from MI to Dallas to pick up my 03. Drove the first night to McAlester, OK...then straight home without stopping the next day to just a little southwest of Flint. Map says it's 991 miles.
I would do it again in a heartbeat. I make yearly nonstop trips from MI to FL (1250 miles) in my Tahoe...and if I could do that in my Vette the ride would be even better. Problem with that is fitting four people and luggage in the hatch might be a little tight...LOL!
friou, thanks for the compliment on the photo, and yes, my Brother, enjoy that retirement!!!!!
(The biggest thing, as you know, is NO HASSLES, either from the bags on the street, or the admin in the village hall!)
Well, that is just a great photo! I'm no photo guy but I know what appeals to me. I thought the light and reflection on your vette was just terrific. On the PD thing, did 30+ years, and was incredibly happy to put it in my rear view mirror. A very difficult job, pressures from all sides trying to insure that the public is protected and treated fairly, that my Officers were likewise protected and treated fairly and the constant issues with the city. One of my gals sons told me he wanted to become a police officer, I advised him to find another line of work, thankfully, he listened. Be safe and be well Brother. Take good care!

I NEVER get tired of shifting !!!! NEVER !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks !!!!!!
My real life scenario is I don't want to be half dead when I get to my Lady !!! I just wanted all of your feedback, my first thought was to go farther the first day, then stop and be refreshed for the next. As I mentioned I have done 800 without being all that tired. Even since I bought my Vette I wanted a nice road trip !! Thanks !!!!!
I have taken my Vettes on several 1k+ non stop trips. They are great road machines and I enjoy the trips more in them than other cars (and feel better after the trip too)
Every year we take at least one longer non stop trip. Usually from Illinois to Phoenix (about 1700 miles) or to Colorado (about 1000 miles).
On the trip to Phoenix we usually leave early at about 2 or 3 in the morning. It is easy driving with little traffic and we are keyed up about the trip, so it is easy to make it to dawn. Once the sun comes up it is easy to drive in the daylight without getting sleepy. Usually we are getting to near Albuquerque about the time it is getting dark and that is when it starts getting tougher and feeling more tired. We have tried several strategies. We have stopped for the night, we have traded off drivers so I could sleep(I normally drive the whole way), or we have just stopped for a few hours to sleep and then continued. Frequently we make it to the AZ/NM border and nap for a few hours at a rest area. Then we go on to Phoenix, getting there between 2 to 4 am. We sleep for a few hours and when we get up, we are good to go.
The return trip is similar, but less keyed up and we make more stops.
About 40 years ago, I took one of my first 1000 mile drives from Iowa to New Jersey to visit my parents. They always took 2 days to do the drive. I stopped about half way and checked into a motel. It was sunny and only about 2 in the afternoon. I was really bored and couldn't stand it, so I checked out and drove the rest of the way. Since then I usually drive straight through on most trips, or if I need to sleep, I just stop for a few hours in the car and then go on.
I look forward to the long drives. I love driving and getting there is a lot of the fun.
Hey Guys, I am planning a trip of 1000 miles, I want to do it without stopping for a overnite. Am I out of my mind ??? Maps says it would be 14 hours, I thinking Corvette time in less than 12 ??? Only have driven my C 5 with stock seats (good condition) for three hours and have never been sore or tired in the least from driving 8 hours at a time (my truck)??Thanks Pounder !!
Every year I drive from Dallas to Pittsburgh (1250 miles) and back for a long weekend and never stop for an overnight - usually takes from 20 -22 hours typically - done it in a C4, Miata, Toyota Tercel, F-150, Hyundai Veloster, Genesis Coupe, Grand Cherokee, BMW 735i, Mini Clubman, 300 ZX, and a few others I can't think of now. Will be doing it this year in my C5 - not anticipating any issues. Leave late Wed and normally back by Tue.

Paul, I did 13 hours and 800 miles straight through then back from Charleston, SC to Erie, Pa in my former 2001 convertible. Honestly, the seats and wheel had so much adjustment in them that I could vary positioning and the trip was a breeze. Yeah, I was road weary, but no more than in my Grand Marquis. Plus, the damned thing was fast enough that traffic was easily dealt with in the mountains. Go for it. I think 14 hours is realistic allowing for gas stops and snacking, etc. I am excited for you!!! That is a trip I can't wait to hear about. Awesome.

Hoping for a great trip for you! Road trips, in my humble opinion, are one of life's pleasures, new roads, new sights, new adventures! Take care!
Only question is? Can your back handle it?? I say go for it.... We once drove non stop from Oklahoma City all the way home... without stopping other than to switch drivers and get gas etc.. THAT was nuts. but fun none the less...
I used to do stuff like that when I was young too. Now you would have to crane me out and unbend my aching bones......
