I race my vette. I have had ARH on for many years, and they
are not coated. They look fine and frankly you can hardly see
the headers when you look down at them. On a lift you see
more header but how many times is your vette on a lift.??
I do run socks; they are a good investment.
Good luck what ever you do.

If it'll help, I can say that I've been modding my 'Vette since I bought it in '03 (only 250 miles) and headers are one of the very first ones. Still look great today.

I have LG Pros. They have the option to send out the headers, and X pipe to a coating vendor to get it done. ( forgot the company name) Then that vendor forwards the pipes to your address, save on time, and double shipping.
Only way to go IMO.

I wish that I had mine coated. Getting a couple spots of surface rust after a few years.

I didn't coat mine when I bought them and I still think they look great. I really like the look of the stainless when it goes through a bunch of heat cycles and gets the bluish tint to it. I've burned one wire in 3 years so I won't complain too much about that.

I wouldn't bother getting them coated, but again I don't mind the look, and maybe I've just been lucky with my wires not burning.

Cool Sox are a cheap way to prevent that.

Probably so, but I drive my corvette a lot and use copper plugs, so I change them out frequently anyways. $80 for plugs and wires every 3 years isn't enough to make me put the cool socks on, which I don't really like the way they look.

If I start having more frequent problems I'll have to put them on, until then I actually keep a few of the old still good wires in the trunk in case I were to have an issue on a trip or something.

Plus I added wire and starter protection.

This is one of those ongoing arguments that never seems to end, but there are 2 main benefits of ceramic coating headers. The coating will reduce underhood temps which offers increased protection for everything made of plastic or rubber. Another very good reason to coat them is for heat retention which in turn helps exhaust gas velocity remain high. When exhaust gasses cool they slow down which doesn't help flow or scavenging.

I went with these and haven't looked back. They are KoolSox from Lingenfelter. Also, looking at my pics echo's what Road Pilot said.....you can hardly see them at all

Lets be honest, you will not get any additional power from heat retention causing exhaust gasses to stay hotter. If it makes you happy, coat your headers. I would love to compare underhood temps from my car to a car with coated headers to see just how substantial it makes it. The statement "It helped a lot" means nothing without actual data.

I'm not debating that if money is no issue, coating is the best option. Is it worth the money? Maybe not. In fact, definitely not for me.

I don't think my under hood temps are any hotter with headers, I just wish they stayed all nice and shiny like from the cats back ???

Always get my headers ceramic-coated. I like the look and reduced temps. To each, his own.

ARH I put on the wife's C5

LG Pro's I currently have before coating

After coating
