Default List of Parts No Longer Available for the C5 from GM

Just curious what parts are no longer available from GM for our beloved C5's. It might be interesting for some of us. I'll start with a few items.

1) ECBM
2) Headlight adjuster rods
3) Headliner

I understand every ones concerns over aging parts. However, the C5 will continue to be one of the most desirable generations of Corvettes ever produced. With that being said the reproduction market has already taken off. We now have reproduction seat switches and seat switch bezels just to name a few. The C5 will see more reproduction parts than the C4 could even dream about.

I have been selling OEM C5 Used Parts for 8 years. The 97-00 years are the only ones with non repairable EBCM's. We sell used ones but the day will come when they will be all gone. I have spoke to several companies and individuals about reproduction and it would be wildly expensive. I do believe that at some point in the near future there will be a replacement EBCM and SWPS for our cars. The only other part that is not into reproduction is the BCM but the can be refurbished and it does not fail that often. Dont get me wrong they do fail but not at the rate of the EBCM's. Example: We have 2 EBCM's in stock and 30-40 BCM's. We cant keep 97-00 SWPS's or EBCM's in stock, they sell as fast as we get them most of the time.

VetteNuts will always be a C5 business. Its the only generation we part out and 90% of our service work is C5's. We will continue to bring new parts to the market and always have used parts in stock for all of our beloved C5's.

Very many parts can be had either aftermarket or used.
Put together a list of aftermarket and used parts vendors ie. Marc at VetteNuts.net

You can still buy brand new EBCMs for '01 and newer.

Correction. You used to be able to.

I've heard they've been on backorder for months. And the backorder just keeps getting pushed out. It's possible they've stopped producing it.

Looks like you are right. 2 month wait at Amazon and Summit. I bought mine two years ago for $550 on Amazon. The date on the unit was 3 months before I bought it so it looked like they were still making them in Mexico. Now, at a thousand bucks a pop they would be dumb not to keep making them.

As an addendum to this list, I think it would good to list anything that could potentially cause issues in drivability for the car.

I know the ECBM and steering position sensor can cause all kinds of dash lights and render things like TCS inop, but you can still drive the car as you'd like to. There are other things electronically that could cause bigger problems.

Obviously anything can be had second hand, but as failures start to mount, it could be annoying to say the least.

Not sure how a vehicle inspection in a state like Maryland would go if the car had warning lights on - it's a pretty thorough process for someone trying to license a vehicle there. I expect an ABS warning light on would mean a fail. Just saying, selling might be an issue. Get the wire cutters out.......

Anyway, since the "normal" sparing window by the manufacturers is 10 years, all C5's are on borrowed time.

Just priced out the right front air dam at the Chev dealer. At $92.00 it might as well be unavailable as MAMotorworks has them for $20.00

In MA at least the ABS light on is a pass, Brake light on is a fail as is the CEL. I think anything TCS related is a pass as well.

But I can absolutely see issues like that moving forward.

A list like this is like a list of why to get out of the C5. I think its a big reason I want to get back into pre computer muscle cars. The idea that a little computer can turn my C5 into a doorstop is scary.
