I notice there is a mild ticking sound coming from the right side of my engine. It seems to be more prononced now but maybe it's just me because I'm aware of it. It's very noticable when I let of the throttle and am costing. Sounds very much like a lifter to me. I took it to my local dealer in Elk Grove and told the service manager what I thought. They drove it and wrote on the service sheet that it's a "characteristic" of corvettes and no repair is needed. I think their full of *&%#. Does everyone else have this noise in their car?
Mine does it and I think they all do it. I have read threads on this forum and other Z forums and it seems to be normal and nothing to worry about.
Mine has a ticking sound that I notice from time to time. May others have commented on the ticking noise as well. Some on the forum say lifter some say injector. I have choosen to write it off as a characteristic.
There's been a lot of discussion about what the noise might be ... but wide consensus that it's there in most of our cars and is not worth worrying about.
The ticking in my car IS the valve train, not injectors. If you lift the throtle quick does the ticking taper off? that's valve noise. If it cuts of more instantly it might be injector noise. Either way probably "normal" Ric
I believe all dealers will tell you it's a Corvette charateristic, I took my 00 FRC in and they told me it was valve clatter, typical Corvette noise. I said ok. :bs
Purchased and installed crane rocker kit(pushrods, studs, rockers, guideplates) and after installation, noise seemed to quiet down, still there but not as noticeable.
Some times I hear it if I listen for it, but then I hear the voices say floor it and it goes away. This is the most common solution to most of the C5's ailments.
