Whining noise?
I have a 02 coupe, I have noticed a whining noise, it doesn't do it all the time, the sound is coming from the driver rear side, I will shut the car off then start it, the sound is still there, what could it be? Thanks

From just seeing the title I'd say leave her at home and the whining noise will stop while your driving....
Seriously though...I wonder if it could be the fuel pump. Have you actually gotten out of the car and listened for it to try and pin point where it's coming from or it only whines while your driving ?

It's the fuel pump. Some say that replacing the fuel filter reduces the noise.
There is almost no sound deadening between you and the pump so depending on how sensitive your hearing is to that frequency, you might always hear it.

How much am I looking at to replace it? Should I take it to a dealership.

^I don't know your skill set. I would say that the fuel filter isn't much harder to change than on any other car. The fuel filter is located on the bottom of the car behind the driver and has the fuel pressure regulator built into it on the later models. You will need a quick disconnect tool commonly used for fuel lines. Definitely wear safety goggles if you do it.
If you tell the dealer it is making a noise, they may charge you for a lot of unnecessary work (costly fuel pumps etc...). I would just go to a mechanic and tell them you want the fuel filter changed as regular preventative maintenance.
If you buy the filter it is about $70. There are some $30 aftermarket ones on amazon. If you go to a mechanic they will probably charge $150-$200 for parts and labor.
If you have a mechanic friend you could have them do it.

Mine was doing the same thing and recently quit. Based on the advice I received on this forum, I purchased a filter/ regulator but haven't installed it yet. Some of the people say that they have had the noise the entire time they owned the car without issues. Others said the noise went away when they replaced the filter.
Bottom line; I am not sure how critical this issue is or if it even is an issue. There is very little sound deadening in Corvetts and you can hear the pump.

I also have a C5 related whining noise. It usually comes from just outside the car on a sunny weekend day while the car is not moving in the driveway. It sounds kinda like this.........are you going to spend all day cleaning that already clean car?

My Z51 does the same thing. I think it's normal operation and I never hear it while driving (NPP valves open all the time). My theories are that it's either a fuel pump or the vacuum pump. Since it's so intermittent, it's hard to pin down. Nevertheless, I'm sure it helps explain why C7s are such electricity hogs in storage. So, I keep mine on a battery tender in the winter.
