It's a diffuser and the two reasons why:

1) I love the way it grounds the rear end of the Corvette

2) Once I add cooling to the transmission and differential it will be used to generate downforce without having to put an awful wing on the car

Well, lets get real here for a minute. A diffuser only adds downforce when it is coupled with flat floors. I have seen this diffuser installed in person, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that it is none functional. It MAY be some help if you have flat floors from the splitter all the way back, but I don't feel that it has enough area for the air underneath to expand out, and slow down. Plus, the stakes are way not long enough to effectively pocket air.

Secondly, an appropriately designed, and functional wing will not have a huge impact on drag. Your straight ones like the Kognition, or GOOD aero wings, will cause more drag than say the APR GTC-300, which is a compound design. I also can't imagine how it would be possible for this thing to make downforce by adding cooling elements to the rearend, unless you are planning to box everything in under flat floors that mate to this piece.

The only reason these really exist, is because most racing regulations (including F1) require a cars' aero components to be fwd of the front wheels, and aft of the rear wheels only. Were there no regulations on this, you wouldn't see the radical ones you see today, since it is more efficient to handle the air under then car mid body, rather than at the ends of it.

That being said, it is a nice piece, and a black coupe really pulls off the look However, it is form over function in the strictest sense.

I never said that it was functional in it's current state. I need to cool the diff and trans when I do box the underside, otherwise those elements will be trapped with no ventilation in close proximity to the exhaust pipes

It appears to be clearly implied as doing just that in your post, but no matter, I did not respond to knock you, I responded because it was a good opportunity to expand the local enthusiast knowledge base.

An awesome option for that is to run them, fed by Z06 brake ducts it also keeps the added weight as low as you can possibly get it, while still being frame mounted in a sturdy fashion.

Definitely a good pic, seeing your wheels is one of the reasons I got a set.

Really good picture. Car is spectacular and I really like the gold wheels, takes some ***** to do something different but you have pulled it off.
