Trade my C5 for a C6

Only you can decide whether you want a c6. As an owner of a 2008 c6 z51 which has been a great car I had two c5 s, one of which was a 500 hp z06, the c6 is more grand touring than rip roaring fun.
The c5 z06 was more raw and tossable. The c6 has been utterly reliable as it's basically stock other than a tune, a cow booster and a mgw short throw shifter.. I have put 107k miles since new on this corvette and it's been so good I can't bring myself to sell for a new one so my opinion is biased.
If I were to suggest an upgrade for you? I'd only do so if you spent 30 grand or so for a 2006 c6 z06. I believe the Internet nonsense rumors on the ls7 engine has brought values to a very good value that will minimize future depreciation making ownership depreciation almost nonexistent.
Honestly if you have 18 months of payments left on you c5? I'd suggest enjoying your present beautiful ride. Why spend more if your present corvette is reliable and beautiful would be my question.
Better to save your money.

you got a point.... currently have 61,000 original miles and rock solid. would just love to have 400 Hp as opposed to 350 for the C5 however I guess a nice mild cam and tune will help out a lot.

Just be aware a cam will require the replacement of valve springs at various service intervals. It was something that I didn't anticipate when I did the cam. Leaving my car at a tuner shop was a nightmare because they always run behind on jobs like that.
Leave the car stock. The added performance is not worth the hassle of getting your car back from the tuner shop. I hated that crap with a passion. Used to **** me off big time and they all do it..no matter what they say although the shop I used has since closed,
Just enjoy your c5 as the 170 mph road rocket it is. The speed differential on the c6 vs the c5 is minimal in the real world. With older corvettes and even newer corvettes...reliability is more valuable than an extra 50 hp.
If I were to mod my c6 ? Which I won't because it doesn't make sense...I'd go with an edlebrock supercharger but I won't because financially it makes no sense.
Better off enjoying the car you have, maintain it and drive it. When it's time to buy another pick up a z06 if you really think you need more than 170 mph top speed. All the latest corvettes are so fast...we would actually better served in drivers schools to become better drivers...
So my suggestion is...leave the car as is and spend a few dollars in corvette club drivers events at local tracks....more fun, better experiences and a hell of a lot less money.
We are just shooting the breeze.
Pay off existing beauty would be my opinion. I'd pass on cam based off of my previous experience. Never works out as promised and the maintance can be a pia.

JerriVette you said it the best!
It seems when I read people mods they can't stop. Then becomes a money pit. If car ever get total all the extra time money could be lost.
Paid it off. Save the money for repairs.

What's the internet nonsense about the LS7?

Not sure if you're facetious here or not, but I think he's referring to the premature valve wear from mis-manufactured valve guides that cause valves to break off from the stems, thus grenading the engine.
To OP,
I know this is objective, but a C5 to base C6 is a downgrade IMO. I can't stand the look of the base C6's. A GS, Z06, or ZR1 yes, but base no
I would keep what I've got, at least until it's paid off.

I wouldn't trade my Z for a base C6. I don't care for them at all....A Z06 yes....If I was you I would get my car payed off and enjoy it....I hate car payments...My Z has been payed for for over 5 or 6 years. That last payment was a great day and great feeling...

If I ever switched from my C5 to a C6, it would have to be for a Z06 or a GS. Love the wide body look and just not enthused about the base car. But that's just me. The C6 is a good car but unless you sell the C5 yourself, you may be shocked at what a dealer will offer you for your car, and that on top of 18 months of payments left.
Ultimately you have to decide what is best for you, but I think I'd keep on enjoying your very reliable C5. If you want a car with close to 400 bhp, just consider a set of LT headers, a good air intake and a tune. You'd be close to that mark for a lot less money than a C6 purchase.

Not being facetious at all, I've never heard of any problems with the LS7...so is this an actual problem with this engine, or has it been blown out of proportion, and if it's an actual problem, has GM addressed the problem with a recall?

Take some time to enjoy a payment free life. Even for a little bit. Maybe dress up the interior a little; freshen it in your eyes.
No matter what you do, good luck!

I owned a C6 for 2 years and ended up getting rid of it. It is a matter of personal taste of course but to me the C6 didn't live up to the expectations I had.
OP,
If you can swing it, keep the C5 and buy the C6.

If you can afford it and really want to sure, though I would definitely go w/ the later LS3. Mines paid off and id rather use the extra money to mod rather then make a monthly payment and have to start paying collision again. At a certain point if you do enough to it, it really wont matter

No way I'd trade either of my C5s for a base C6. Not a big fan of them. I would trade one in on a C7 Z06 but my wallet says NO!
Maybe I'll wait for the mid-engine C8

Thanks guys for the responses this car IS almost paid off. I would love to do LongTube headers however I live in California and I am not allowed to have Long Tubes ...BUMMER. Heck when I moved here last year I had to remove the cold air kit I had on the car and put it back to stock because it was not CARB compliant. So I found a C5 ZO6 which I was told flow better than a stock C5 airbox. Thanks guys for the input !
