If you like the car and you want it....then get it.....If you are questioning it....walk away...

Here's what I see at first glance - seats are far from being 8/10, sun visor is in rough shape, weatherstripping is in poor condition (read expensive to repair) and that's just what is visible. Without seeing the car in person and having a trained mechanic give the car a good inspection, it is very difficult to give you a recommendation. As I said in my post in your last thread, for a few grand more you can find a much lower mileage car with most likely less issues.

But, it's your money, your decision. If you do buy this one, must be prepared to sink more than the $8K into it.

find a local shop that's known to know corvettes. pay them $50-75 for their professional opinion. buy a $10 borescope that attaches to your phone, stick it down a spark plug hole and look around. read the computer for historical codes. if you have HPTuners, download the entire tune and see if they turned off any error codes (doesnt require a license). examine the tail pipe area for burned oil (but beware these years were known to burn oil, too though).

if you do that and find nothing, then walk around, kick a tire, and buy it.

For what I can see in the pictures ( Jack noticed as well ) the repairs in the future, as you put it may be sooner then you think.

Don't go by your heart and fall in love with the first one you see. If your willing to spend $8k then for another $2k on top of that can get you a much cleaner, less mileage example.

^^ totally true. on the flip side, if you're a major DIY'er, $2k can get you a pretty young LS1 or PLENTY of parts to build your own, and probably enough budget left to have a machine shop do work on it. if he'd drop to $7000, i wouldnt even care if it came with an engine.

4L60e's are incredibly cheap, too. but buying any 200k mile 4l60e i'd basically have budget set aside for just knowing it'll need work. they dont die quite as often in c5's, but in most applications, the 4l60e isnt expected to last incredibly long. and while this car COULD have been babied and that trans is in new shape, i wouldnt assume it.

That's a LOTTA miles, man, I don't think its worth 8 grand. With those kinds of miles you've got to worry about major component failure. You add the price of a new engine or transmission to that price and you're in the price range of a lot of C5's with lower mileage. If you want it, I'd offer 4 grand.

Worn out suspension, torque tube, electrical problems, it has a potential of a lot more than engine issues, especially on the earlier C5's. If he bought it for 7k, he could easily spend another 7k. 14k gets you a nice C5 these days. Make a 4 grand offer, buyers arent exactly going to be climbing all over this car, the seller will be glad to get rid of it.

ah, yea, good points. even being a DIY.. no real reason to do that if you dont have to.
