I think a nice low mellow sounding exhaust is fine, but it would appear some need that ear shattering , almost no muffler sound.

What the hell is that all about?
Perhaps a high testosterone level, or very little, take your choice.
Some just crave attention.
What ever the reason, it is absolutely ridiculous.

Bob.
maybe because people all like different things? No "mellow" c5 sounds good at all. It isn't a Bentley.

I thought about it, and I actually did do just that. I know who he is. His daughter is friends with my son. I just reached out and apologized. It was obnoxious, as someone pointed out, and I acknowledged that to him. I also welcomed him to the neighborhood (they just moved here over the winter).

I honestly wasn't speeding or driving reckless. It was just loud.

In reality he was just flipping you off because he realized you owned an automatic corvette

Kudos to you for your apology. What feels good to you in the moment doesn't mean those within earshot feel the same excitement. I'm sure a lot of us are guilty of similar experiences. Like smokers, they're entitled to their habits as long as they're not infringing on other's rights.

No, a lot of people not wanting or having to put up with your inconsideration. You'll learn eventually, boy.

When I first got my license the first thing my Dad told me was not in the neighborhood. People know me and where we live.

Kudos for stepping up.

Way to man up.
When I was 16 I learned the hard way how not to drive in a residential neighborhood.

You are showing yours, at least your level of maturity.

Noise never killed anybody if anything it warns people of danger ..If you aren't driving like an idiot or speeding then is it really a big deal ? Bikers are three times as loud with drag pipes ,they usually speed and they do it all summer . People need to lighten up some ! Why even own a vette if you have to act like a prude grandma .

Nobody loves performance cars and bikes more than I. And I like performance machines to sound like performance machines. Having said that, I realized a very long time ago that there is a time and place for everything. I have a fairly loud Harley Road King with Vance and Hines Longshots exhaust and it can be loud when its under load. My C5 has BB Bullets, same deal as the Harley. But when I'm in my neighborhood, or anyone elses for that matter, I basically idle in and through. I don't want to offend neighbors. Some of these folks have babies at home, some folks work at night and sleep during the day, there are many reasons to be thoughtful, courteous and empathetic. I applaud the OP's decision to reach out and apologize to his neighbor. Purposely offending folks by being insensitive to others does nothing to promote the performance car and motorcycle hobby. Actually quite the contrary. Everyone please be well and take care.

Someday you will figure it out.

Google "man kills neighbor over noise" and you will learn that people get killed over noise all the time.

I'm 64 and have never given anyone the finger which I consider much more immature than a few seconds of noise pollution.

You have a right to your opinion.
Dale Earnhardt used to give the finger all the time as a way to express his opinion.

I can definitely understand someone getting a little annoyed if someone is getting on the throttle a bit in the middle of a neighborhood, but the finger may have been a bit much.

However, some people just can't stand loud cars and they'll complain even if you're idling through. You can't please everyone and if you're at least trying to drive normal and not being juvenile...they just have to learn deal with it or you ignore them.

For those that can't understand why people like loud cars...bah. It's always easiest to make up a bunch of garbage for things you don't understand. He must be compensating! Right. LOTS of people like the sound of a loud, raw car. It's not a new thing, and never was. Make all the cars at racing events put on giant mufflers and quiet them down, and you'll have a riot on your hands. Guaranteed. People just like to whine.

Do you understand what a residential neighborhood is? That is what we are talking about.

You did not seem to get that. We are not talking about racing events. We are talking about where people live.

The real point here, is that it's the first middle finger you've seen -- there have probably been others, but weren't looking backwards...
