Road Trip in our Convertible Vette
Guys and girls,
Just wanted to share. The wife and I will be doing a 5 day road trip with the our convertible C5 Vette as our mode of transportation. We'll be going Thurs-Monday (ending on Memorial day).
Here's the general plan.
About 1100 miles round trip.
Philadelphia, PA - Start and Endpoint
Uniontown, PA (outside Pittsburgh)
Fayetteville, WV (outside Charleston)
Lexington, VA
Washington, DC
For the most part we'll be avoiding the big cities and seeing the smaller, scenic towns just outside of the cities mentioned above.
Plan to stay at Bed and Breakfasts along the way.
We'll have our AAA card on hand for any issues. Hopefully no flat tires. We have runflats on the four corners.
If weather holds out for us, we'll be doing top down. Right now it looks like a mixed bag. Some rain, some sun.
The cars been tuned up, fluids topped off, washed and seems ready to go. We'll be packing mostly soft duffel bags into the trunk.
Advice:
Any suggestions on what to bring specific to the vette?
Any ways to make the trip more enjoyable or comfortable while driving in the vette?
We're just excited to see the USA and take some pics of the vette on the way. Wish us luck.

Sounds like you have it covered. Corvettes are great for road trips. Did one a few years ago with my wife (ex wife now) and had a great time. Total of 2435 miles in 11 days. On the last day we just wanted to get home and drove 16.5 hrs straight. Only stopped for gas, food and pee breaks. Not one problem and the gas mileage was great on the interstates. Have a safe and wonderful trip!

Took a 3500 mile road trip from Wisconsin to Connecticut and back a couple years ago in my '01 Corvette Vert. A little paranoid overkill for me when it came to bringing stuff. Tool kit, extra belts, upper hose, tire repair kit with compressor and Slime, duck tape, jumper battery, Qt of Mobil1, extra fuses and assorted lights, gloves and rags. I also brought my California duster and detail spray to give it a once over every morning to make sure it always looked good.
I had zero problems and everything went great.

We did just over 5,000 miles in your scenic country with our Z28. Nonstop from LA to home (36 hours and I don't recommend it)Hoping For another road trip in the Vette next summer. Enjoy the car, take lots of pictures

Actually all that stuff fit in the compartments, so there was plenty of room for 10 days of clothes for two, tent, air mattress and pump, folding chairs, cooler, camping gear, food, dress clothes and shoes and wedding gift for the couple that was getting married in Connecticut. These trunks are pretty big.

You've got your AAA card for emergencies, just pack your bags and enjoy.

Tell us how it goes. I have to attend a week long conference in Florida next month. Since I am leaving the family home I am considering taking my c5. I think I'll change the differential and transmission fluid first since it is nearly due. Other than that I just plan on fix a flat, a compressor, clothes, and sunglasses.

Many a C5 are daily driver. Belts and hoses have taken a licking and keep on ticking.

Then don't forget your Rhino ramps, jacks and jack stands. Do you really expect to change a belt or a hose on the side of the road? Belt, maybe (BIG maybe). Inspect your belts and hoses before you leave. Maybe replace the belts straight away. Anything else and your tight schedule is shot. Chances are it won't be a hose or a belt...

There is little to no chance that a small town shop will have any parts for a C5. I do carry a thermostat, too. Nobody is going to have one of those.

Anxious to hear how it goes.
We are taking our 01 Vert on a1200 mile road trip in a couple weeks. Dallas to Big Bend to Fredricksburg to Dallas. Threads like these are great to help plan before hitting the road.
