Interior would be a lot closer IMO except for the cobalt steering wheel on the C6. How much would it have cost GM to tool up a new exclusive good looking one for the Vette? From the limited research I have done, it is not that easy to swap it out to a better looking one either....

The C6 wheel looks pretty good wrapped in leather. Especially the GS one.

The C5 had me instantly when I first laid my eyes on that bubble-butt rear end. My baby got back.

Interesting, more people like the C5 butt vs the C6 than I expected.

However one incredibly discerning feature of the C5 vs C6 issue that you have to remember is there is not really a lot of fundamental differences between them. The C4 to C5 change and the C6 to C7 change was much more revolutionary in nature than the C5 to C6 evolutionary change. At the C6's heart it's largely a C5 in nature (this is most prominent in the 2005 models, where a lot of C5 carry-over parts were used) and if anything the car gained a lot of quirks; Lack of on-board DIC diagnostic functionality without a code reader, electronic door locks that can be hap-hazard, a need for non-pop up headlamps due to both styling changes and increasing costs with pop-up designs to remain within laws, etc, etc, etc.

The way I see it is this. Had I not owned a Corvette at all and were looking for something not as new - and costly - as the C7, I would get a C6. As a C5 owner, I don't really see a need to purchase a C6 and will likely move into a C7 when I'm able to. If anything, one good thing about the whole C5 to C6 similarity is it gives you a VERY LARGE strike zone - 1997 to 2013 - for that classic saying in Corvette buying; "buy the newest and "best" car you can afford that is what you want."
I was reading through all the posts in this thread and this is probably the one that I agree with the most. Large strike zone! Plus you can get a C5 with 115,000 miles for pennies, or one with 10,000 miles for a little more.

Thanks for making the video. I've seen it twice as I consider skipping the C5 to get a C6. I find the C5 exterior more attractive from every angle. So I need to decide if the superior engine and paddle shifters are worth the extra coin.

I wonder if the build quality of the C6 is noticeable better than the C5.

Best I can tell, build quality is similar. Avoid C5's form 97-2000 though due to the infamous EBCM that cannot be purchased and is not typically repairable that leaves you without ABS, Traction Control or Active Handling.

I agree the C6 steering wheel was a step backwards and is shared with the Cobalt, Malibu etc. I remember the controversy over the steering wheel in the '76 which was shared with the Vega, Camaro, and Chevelle. It was better looking though than the one in the C6. Overall I like things about both of them and if there was a little less overhang on the C5 it would be the perfect looking modern Vette.

The C6 butt looks exactly like what they did to it, a hack job of the C5.
Looks like they took a sawsall, and cut the butt in half.
So, between those God awful head lights, and the chopped butt, the C6 is not a winner in my mind.

Bob.

IMO other than shortening the overhangs which doesn't mean much to me, the C5 exterior is more pleasing from every angle.

I could live with that, "a little less overhang and it would be the perfect looking modern Vette."

I watched this video a few weeks ago

The one thing I disagree with you on is the interior , the C6 is the clear winner in that category

The other category that you didn't mention is the size of both cars, the base C6 is tiny and looks like a girls car if it isn't modified (lowered, wheels , widebody etc...)

C-6 headlights look like bug eyes. And I've got two other cars with plastic covers on the headlights, what a pain to keep shiny. They always look dull and fogged over. They don't turn me on at all.

i like gauges and ***** so the C5 has my imagination in that area....i love the idea of an LS3 that has me all excited.

i see trade offs on the body....c5 front license plate is better if you have to have one....pop up lights dont fog up....and the c6 zo6 looks so freaking mean i want one

i would not turn down a C6 but a C5 is what i have.

thanks for making the video
