Opinions on tires: Goodyear Eagle F1
Summary:
I've been looking for a set of rear tires to be mounted on a spare set of chrome C6 replicas. Will be removing the tires from my wagon wheels (2 of 4 have cracks on the back side of the wheel). Fronts are decent, just a little older. Rears are shot.
Situation: I've been browsing the forums, facebook, craigslist, etc for a set of used, but decent tires for the rear. Wheels are factory sizes and staggered. Found a guy very local, with a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT's. 275/35/18 (current wheels are 275/40/18). He sent me pics last night and they look fine (I'll be inspecting in person too). Date stamp is 0314. No doubt they'll fit my needs as a spare set, and to be used when I feel like changing the look of the car (currently run 18x10.5 on all corners, gloss black w/polished lip, C5Z replicas).
So my question and your opinions....... what can I expect from these tires? Doing a little on line reading of reviews of these tires, is so-so. What are YOUR experiences with these? I have ZERO plans of driving in the rain on any regular basis, not too many long trips either. Mostly just a weekend driver. They're super cheap at $60 for the pair!!! Was asking $50/each. For $60 do I say "who cares" and do it anyway, or do I save the $60 and keep looking?
Current set up:

Any run flat tire will be **** in the handling department. So many better tires out there. I would stay away from run flats. But for the price its not bad to "get you by" until you get a set that you really want. As im sure you know a 35 profile will be shorter than the 40.

Those are cheap enough, but I am not a fan of the Goodyear EMTs. I couldn't wait to get them off my car.

I don't have the run flat F1s on my Z06 so I can't say anything to that through personal experience, but a friend who has a 99 vert with EMTs says they ride way too harsh. Of course that may be true for any run flat tire with the really stiff sidewall. Other than that, if they were good enough for Chevrolet, they are good enough for me.

I bought my car with the stock Run Flats. It was a teeth shattering existence. The car rode like crap, the traction sucked, and I was miserable - Almost turned around and sold it, it was so bad. While there was a lot of tread left, I had to make a change, or sell it.
I went to the 18"/19" C7 Z06 Replica's with the Hankooks and OMG, the ride is unbelievable. Great traction and it actually hooks up now.
Even if Goodyear gave me a new set for free, there is no way in heck I'd go back. I used to be a Goodyear only guy for decades, but no more. Even with the Duratracs on my truck, those were so bad, it took seriously a 1/4 pound of weight to get those balanced and even then they wobble, and just suck. I'm done with GY. There are much better options on there by Imho, the V12's are by far the best bang for the buck option out there.

They were too cheap to pass up, so i picked them up after work.
Now, might be a dumb question, but are they ALL runflats (if they're Goodyear F1)? It doesn't say runflat anywhere in the tires.

My C6Z wheels came with F1s mounted. About 20% left on them. They were rough and slippery. I killed them off with one day at the track and couldn't believe how badly they rode and handled. Replaced them with Michelin pilot super sports. Day and night difference. It rides like a Cadillac compared to the F1s.

What about a flat tire on a Z06 without EMT's?
I am just curious what is the backup plan when a Z06 driver gets a flat tire (if not running the EMT tires)??

Edit: A can of slime and a AAA membership doesnt hurt since the puncture my involve a side wall.

Any C5 with non EMT tires would be in the same predicament.
I drive mine daily, within my small city to and from work. Rarely drive it long distance. If I did, I'd probably carry 1 or 2 of the list.

Obviously the OP didn't need anyone's advice on these tires. He already made up his mind. Unless you have had a modern runflat like Michelin A/S Zp3 your runflat experience is out dated.

most people's insurance has free towing up to a certain amount of miles and you pay the difference outside that range... I've had to use it once but not because of a flat tire

doesn't bother me, you can stay stranded if that's what you prefer... if you tell them to send a flatbed and what car it is they will take care of it, at least in my experience... my bill was only a few bucks and I tipped the driver $50, it was well worth the time and hassle saved in my case

and what if it isn't a tire failure, are you just going to leave the car on the side of the road?... I had to get towed for an issue not at all related to tires

Run flats or not, I love the eagle f1. Great tire overall and most importantly great in pouring rain.
Originally I had the d3 with the tiger claw v shape design. Was pretty good for a summer but not so sticky.
I use the eagle f1 non run flats but if you have a good deal on any f1's I would go for it. I'm using the eagle f1 supercar a/s and will be buying a new set again soon.
