So, we finally had some decent weather yesterday. Sunny and warm. Left work, headed home, was meeting the wife later for dinner, so I buffed up the Vette, and took it out for some errands. First stop; post office. It's in a small strip mall. I pulled in, found a parking spot without any other vehicle around, went in and conducted my business. Coming out, out of the corner of my eye, I spot a kid and his mother getting out of their car. They're two rows behind me. I get to my car, unlock the door, and get in. Checking the rear view, I see the kid standing there, holding his mother's hand. He's giving the Vette a major stare session. His mother tries to pull him along, but his feet are glued to the asphalt. I start it up, and it so happens the Corsa gives me a nice double pop as it comes alive. Kid's got a grin now, they start walking towards the post office (OK, Mom is walking, kid is dragging). I stick it in gear, and wheel around to where they're at, they stop, thinking I'm going to drive by, I stop as well, and wave them over. They come over, I ask the kid his name, how old he is, how he likes the car. He's shy, but through an ear to ear grin, he answers all my questions. Finally, I ask him if he would like to sit in it. His eyes just about bug out of his head. No words, but the head's just bobbing up and down. I look at his Mom, she says it's cool, pops the door for him, and he climbs in...
Considering I'm a total stranger to these folks, I didn't think offering him a ride around the parking lot would have flown with Mom, so I resisted. He sat there for a moment, happy as Christmas Day, and then he hopped out. His Mom thanked me, and then asked him if he was going to tell his brothers about it when they got home. That's when he really pipped up, "OH YEAH!!".

Best story I've read all day. You did good and we can hope that young boy will someday be a Vette owner and a Corvette Forum member.

Thanks guys. It was absolute delight. His grin just automatically put a big grin on my face too. I just regret not asking his mom for her cell number, then I could have texted her the picture. Now that the wife and I are empty nesters, it's really cool to light up a kids day like that. He probably did just as much for me, as I did for him.
I think my old man would have approved as well. He left us in 2015 after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. We were always big car buffs, particularly Chevy, and we were REALLY tight. He always had a Chevy in the yard, be it a pick up, a van, or some beater to run errands with. When I bought the Vette, it was to replace our Goldwing. The wife was always nervous on the bike, so I decided that the Vette would suit us both. I wanted to honor the old man somehow, and luckily, I found a gent state-side that made custom shifter *****, so I had this made...
When moments like these come along, I'm grateful that I have the opportunity to pass on a bit of what he passed on to me. I'm also glad that he's still riding shotgun with me. Thanks Chief!!

Im sorry to hear about your father...he must have been an amazing man for raising a son like you.
Well done!
I did the same thing for a little boy at a Car Show...he circled and circled my car. Finally I asked his mother if it would be ok if he sat in the car... I had the top down, and I even let him start it. His face was priceless.
The reason I mentioned my story is cause very nice old man (that looked just like your Dad) came over to me, and said "they just dont make em like you anymore - ya did a really nice thing for that little boy"...and shook my hand...and he was a veteran...asking to shake my hand...go figure.

Good for you! So many would've not taken the time or interest to make that kid's day as you did. What a great picture of the little boy -- a grin worth millions. Thanks for what you did and for sharing it with us. It made my day.

Very nicely done! A show of kindness seems to be getting rarer in the world as each day goes by. You put a smile on my face today and made a very young man very happy as well. Kudos to you!
