For me gearing is short for a road course in a c6/C7 z51 or C5z. First thing I would change for a road course would be the trans gearing. Third isn't tall enough and it causes a drop into 4th gear. Base and C6z c7z gearing is better in my opinion. C5Z is geared better for autocross so it depends on what you are doing. I wish I had about another 10 mph from 3rd. Since you very rarely get into 2nd I am OK with it.

This car was marketed as a purpose-built track car and turnkey. Why should you have to buy anything extra when that can just be installed at the factory?
Since the 2017 Z06s had the overheating issues addressed by GM, clearly GM could have done better with the earlier models.

Sure that's one way to look at it, another is a bad reputation among automakers for their flagship vehicle. It's just bad business practice and GM should have corrected the minute they knew about it. This is no different then C6Z's blowing up and GM putting out a bulletin, but no recall.

Notice all the "spy" photos of future cars, ZR1, ZORA, mid engine, etc., all have big and beautiful places for cooling air to flow. Now, the real racing guys know that much frontal area intake flow slows the car down. They took care of the cooling issues in other and very expensive ways. For the "street" cars, GM is doing what they need to do.

DDaaryl and feeder82 are spot on. Lawyers win, clients think they won, GM survives, you and I (owners) lose. Every negative word said on all forums, will be exhibit whatever.
Still, best performance car on the planet for the money.

The way to fix it is buying a grand sport and continuing to drive while the Z06 limps around. Cars a lot of times are all hype and marketing. Any true track rat knew before it came out that it was going to overheat. Spend your money on brakes, suspension, tires, and cooling. Then add a little horsepower but the first time you get passed by a Miata through a turn you realize there is a lot more to driving a track than HP. The grand sport is a good track package to start.
And in the case of motorcycles...............don't fall off. Slows you down and hurts!

Safety Car
Let's sue for the electrical issue the C5 have.
I wonder if that ZR1 had any issues, if not then the c7 owner should trade up.
I'd expect to mod the car even if it's minor if I'd plan to track or autox the car.
Want to track or autox? Mod your car and you're done, are you afraid of loosing your warranty? Lol.
Who's to blame if your clutch burns out at 20k due to autox or track the manufacturer or the driver?
I'd say just make the mods or get a different car.

Safety Car
but it's not a race car.
People who street race illegally as seen on YouTube, obviously mod their c7's for the purpose of racing.
You play, you pay. Gm site does not State it's a race car.
Getting a few laps before the limp mode kicks in is reasonable. But if I didn't want that, then I'd make changes to the car.
Sucks people assume the wrong thing.
Still say go c6 ZR1

As for the ZR1, love it! But it's not as technically refined as it's predecessor.
