Platidip, you can do your whole car for about $200 and a couple hours. My buddy did his GT-R in a pearl chameleon that looked amazing. I dipped my wheels over a year ago and they have held up great, too.
<edit> Yes, that is plasti dip shot from a Harbor Freight gun (self contained compressor) that was about $100.
That looks amazing! For $200 bucks and a couple hours I’d love to have that playbook. Any chance of messaging me the broad strokes or a link from start to finish?
Agreed on the blue. The C5 does well with exotic colors. I’m doing C6 grand sports in this blue or a touch lighter. With all the clearance on the GS wheels leaves plenty of room for quality caliper dipping to compound the level of attention. That flat or matte black on the cars finish. With that blue or lighter, powder coated with silver or chrome calipers.

Agree on the C6GS rims. I once thought they were too open for me, but now I’d like to have them, especially official GM ones since they don’t deteriorate like repro’s. Will the blue match the body color of the car?
66dts-v, I have to admit I’m surprised someone would spray a GTR with an inexpensive product like plasti-dip, but it looks good in the pic. (I like color shift paints). What concerns me is the condition of the original paint when the plastidip is removed, and I’m curious about the ‘feel’ of the surface and how it is to care for.

Just so happens I was referred to a powder coater located about a rock throw away who does nice caliper work as well. As far as matching the colors. I haven’t gotten that far yet. I almost went with carbon fiber hydrographix on the rims but was talked out of it to keep it simple. Doing a Punisher theme so. We’ll see how it goes. The GS’s I’m getting are repro’s but with the powder coating that should change or I hope it’ll change that. Guy on the west coast offered to cold solution strip them before sending too. Whatever helps for optimal bonding on a project like this I’ll do.

Watching for the results!! When you refer to Punisher do you mean the Jake symbol, or something else.
The actual “Punisher” comic anti hero. Matching the overall color scheme is everything. The blue worries me but Ive grown so partial to it I may have to go in another theme direction.

May go with Black/white/chrome IDK. So much to consider!
The problem with wraps and plasti-dips is the finish isn't as glossy as paint. You can polish paint to look like glass, but you can't do that with the other finishes...

That’s always been my concern as well, but sometimes the idea of a reversible full color change is attractive and some of the glossy versions of available materials are at least ‘pretty good’ for gloss.
Regarding C5 for life’s color concern, is the blue in that graphic the one you are thinking about(would look great on a c5)? FWIW, I added a black with yellow accent stripe to mine last August, including painting the calipers yellow. Tho’ not as close physically as a fender would be, the slight difference was not an issue. I’m sure you can get the caliper color to match anything you can do on the body.

There is another peelable product called Autoflex. I have never had it on a car of my own but have seen one first hand on a BMW at a performance shop I often stop at. It was a really bright Lambo type orange looked liked real paint
It's a two stage system with a clear coat that you can even cut and polish. Apparently it has to be shot with a real paint gun in a booth. Might be interesting to look into.

Yes. But blue won’t fit the “Punisher” profile. As much as black is appealing on the C5. I’m kinda burned out on it. I wanna put a pulse behind this thing. Not many C5’s out there with popping colors. I guess because that’s an import thing. Wouldn’t move me one way or the other to color up and drop the theme ride altogether. But the wrap does do the matte or flat some justice.
Sorry for my ignorance but why are good paint jobs that expensive nowadays? It didn't seem like that long ago you could get a nice custom job for 4 or 5 grand. Labor and materials just that much higher?
It's not just the paint its all the labor/prep - and consider this is an 18 year old car right? C5's are known to have some common leaking issues due to clogged drainage vents & old/worn weatherstripping to name a few, how well do you trust a paint shop to essentially completely disassemble & reassemble your C5 w/ proper panel gap & ensure its 100% water tight as it was new from the factory? I don't know too many I'd trust.....if/when I ever do look for a new paint job and/or wrap will probably be looking @ shops that deal heavily in vettes to begin with.
I wouldn't consider getting a C5 painted without having pretty much all the weatherstripping & plastic molding replaced which adds to the cost as well. Very common to have those parts break in the removal process too depending on age/condition - so I'd want them included as part of the budget.

This process sounds expensive, maybe even as costly as having it repainted...

I understand, so what scheme are you thinking about? Dark grey on grey?

No idea since the guy I’m working with insist if I’m gonna use Powder Coating on the rims and calipers at all, by not utilizing the effect of the loud candy finish/gloss. I’m not taking advantage of the true powder coat finish other than the bond and coating. Gonna spend the night simulating a few ideas.

Agreed. I don’t think I have a single piece of weather stripping still intact. Trunk stripping is gone. Hood stripping is gone. Targa top stripping is a mess but tolerable. Luckily my utters are clear.
Haven’t been able to let anyone touch my vette who doesn’t have my last name. Once I tried that. Never again. Good point on replacing the weather stripping at the time of wrapping. It would be much easier if I had a C5 color simulator to narrow it down.
