I worked the same career, my entire working life. I just retired about 4 years ago.

For 41 years, I was 'on call' 24/7. I never ever worked a regular shift of any kind, any hours. Never ever had 'regular days off', in the conventional sense. Except for Vacations, of course.

My job had it's good points, and it's bad ones too. But long ago, my Dad said, 'you have to work, No ones going to give you anything in life, you can't be a bum'.

So, I worked....

We got a great shift rotation.. Takes 28 days to complete the cycle, out of those 28 days I work 14 and I'm off 14. My Short swing is a day and a half off, my long swing is 7 days off in a row. Work 2 weekends ( Days and nights ) off 2 weekends. For us too it's either a 3 or 4 day work week.
Oh and the best part is when we work 4 days that's 48 hours. Union contract states anything after 40 hrs is time and a half .

Work nights. No bosses is always nice. Work 12hr shifts of 2 on 2 off. Just sucks trying to switch back on my weekends off. The vette comes to work on the weekends when I don't have to worry about people I work with and traffic.

Consider yourself lucky, in that you were able to voluntarily swap shifts with a co-worker. When we were down to just 2 shifts, instead of 3, we couldn't, and we all were forced to rotate. For some sadistic reason, upper management felt it was necessary to drag us through the mud of shift rotations, while they only worked days....

Night shift here also since 1999. Keeps me out of the 120 degree sun during the summer months so I really don't mind.

Nice in the summer, bad in the winter. 15 degree cold starts and the car isn't warm until a 1/3 of the way home.

That's what I work also. 9:15 pm til 7:15 am. Saturday thru Monday's off. I like it so far. I would definitely try to be inside though if I had winter weather down here.

I live in the "snow belt". Working days or nights, we still faced 15* cold starts, and the car not warming up until I was half way to work. The good thing about the night shift in the winter, is you're going in the opposite direction of the majority of the traffic, so the commute is somewhat easier.

With respect to my working conditions, I worked in the precision optics industry, where we needed "controlled conditions" to ensure the constant quality of our products. Our production facility was 68* and low humidity, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Suppose to be 120 the next couple days. Not going to fun at all and I hope my house A/C will hold out. Being close to an ocean has to be fun.

How does your C5 like those temps? I would think it would run HOT!

It's really not as bad as I thought it might be. It actually came from a cold environment when it was born like me, so it took some time to get it acclimatized to the AZ summers. Little upgrade here and there and a custom tune and he's pretty happy so far. It usually runs just below 200 but I've noticed that the last couple times I've had it out it's been hoovering around the 213-215 range. And that's stop and go traffic. I'm happy with that since it has the AC going as well.
