Default New Headlights and a Surprise!

Like many of you I became weary of the poor quality of my headlights in my '02 black vert. After some careful searching I purchased and installed the JDM G2 LED lights. What a difference that made! I realize that there are many out there who think original is best but this is not only a brilliant change it is also a safety issue. I used to be uncomfortable driving at night; now I love it. Excellent choice.

But I also got a surprise. I was having just a little challenge installing the passenger side light so I took off the painted light cover to give myself a bit more room. Much to my surprise I found the signatures of several people who assembled my Black Beauty. Very nice touch. Now are there more signatures in various places??????

Are you going to take the rest of the car apart to find more signatures?

Got the smile back on my face after installing LED's. I have a shelf of bulbs that I changed out looking for "the" fix.

That is really cool. Where did you get the replacement lights from? Are these it?

On my '94 vert there is a signature on backside of the front license plate insert. When I toured the plant last summer I asked about signatures and I got 2 different answers, the tour guide new nothing about it... but an older gentleman in the gift shop of the museum said that sometimes plant workers sign cars on special days for them, such as anniversary of employment, birthdays, etc...

Interesting and cool!

Can you post some pictures at night time with them pointing toward a wall or garage? I can't stand my headlights at night. My Trans Am is the same way and makes for an unpleasant experience when you are so focused on trying to see the road.

Interested as well. I read somewhere on this forum we could not use a LED bulb without some type of reflector to adjust the beam otherwise they blind on coming traffic.

That is true of HID's. Don't think LED's are that bright yet but technology grows fast I could be wrong

Both LEDs and HIDs will glare and throw light everywhere except where you need it. Those that believe otherwise do not know how to properly judge headlight lighting.

I am a bit confused by the throw light everywhere. The stock bulbs are clear all the way around. So that makes me believe that light is emitted 360 degrees from the bulb. And I was always under the impression that the reflector and lens determined where the light emitted by the bulb went. Not the bulb.

The bulb might be clear, but the filament is not a point of light. So yes, the bulb does play a part in how the light is spread, and that's why it is keyed so that it is inserted in the same position every time.

The filament of a halogen bulb is essentially a line of light that is parallel to the base. The light emitted by a HID bulb is a line that is perpendicular to the base. The light emitted by most "headlight" LEDs are points of light emitted at ~160 degrees on two sides.

Ah ha...........I thought so. That explains why when on occasion I have put a bulb in and it is not seated 100% correctly the beam pattern is a bit off.

This happens on my wife's Volvo. Difficult to get the damn bulb in. Once or twice over the years I have not gotten it seated perfectly.
