Default Gas Odor after fill up

I posted this in the new member section. I'm new and not that familiar with the navigation on this site. I have a 2003 Coupe. My concern is after a fill up there is a strong odor of gas. It is especially strong after the car is left overnight in the garage. I do not top it off. The was no signs of gas drip on the garage floor. Suggestions or experience.

Possible charcoal filter/ EVAP system problem.

Many of the '03-'04's had tank related issues. A problem with the pipe linking the two tanks. I don't have personal experience with this issue but perhaps someone that does will chime in.

Since it isn't leaking I would assume it is the EVAP system. If so you may have a related code.

Here is how to retrieve codes.

I had the same issue when filling tank. Gas odor disappeared after gas went to 7/8 to 3/4. Found out left side tank had a hole at the top. When tank was full the gas would "slosh" when driving and would spill out on top of tank causing gas odor. Only fix was to
replace tank.. Had to get a used one, no new available.

My 2001 does the same thing if I go to the gas station a couple blocks away and come straight home and put it in the garage. If I drive a few miles first it is not noticeable.

100% with pulling and posting your codes. There may be any of several codes that will point more closely to a bad gas cap or an evap system issue.
Not sure if my '03 fits this problem? VIN 1G1YY32G635117600 Can't possibly be that far behind the production date range stated, can it?

I edited '03's out of my #2 post. 8VETTE7 is the one that is in the know about the tank issue.

I had a charcoal canister problem. When the canister doesn't purge there can be a fuel smell.

Thanks, for info. How do you interpret the codes. Is there a listing with GM?

My vin is 1G1YY22G035110712. My build sheet shows 10/04/02. Appreciate your knowledge. Will check out the codes and go from there.
Reading the other threads, my issue is like others after you run some of the gas out the odor is not noticible. I do not top off. What is the FFS system?

Had a similar issue with gas odor in my 2000. Changed gas cap problem went away. Quick inexpensive solution, you may want to give it a try.

I looked up your VIN on the C5 Corvette Registry and it was built on Oct 23, 2002. With that build date you are lucky enough to NOT have the FFS fuel system. First build date for FFS equipped C5's is Nov. 22, 2002.

The fuel tank failure that includes the VIN range I posted above is for FFS equipped C5's.
That's good news. I did run through the CODES and nothing came up that indicated a current problem. I did see some codes that were designated History and I just cleared them. I have no knowledge of how long the Codes were there since the car had two previous owners. THanks for all the input it is greatly appreciated.
