Sounds like a fun project...I looked into it for my Mustang at one point.

The one thing I've heard about rear-mounted turbos is that they can lag, not sure if this is true or just theory though.

You may be able to figure out creative ways to free up room in the engine bay...eg. by removing the wiper fluid reservoir which really isn't needed.
Gee, I wonder why they would lag even more than a front mounted system?

You are better off posting in this section:

going to a site like ls1tech or yellowbullet

OK, so everything after the "I need:" (highlighted above from his post and the one you copied) included the "Two eBay turbos". Meaning he did not have them yet. What am I missing??

Definitely will want to ask this in the C5 forced induction section. I've seen a couple of things said already that make me

I started off thinking my twin turbo budget was going to be in the low range and then it kept growing and growing and growing. now there is just no end in sight lol.

Default Much wisdom with age

Unlike many, I was born to be a hands on Engineer, with an inquiring mind and gifted hands. One whos parents work their whole life to make sure my brother and I received a quality education, setting the bar high in scholastic achievements. With two Engineering degrees and a career in Automotive design engineering. If there is one thing that I've learned over my 72 years of life is. " I can "NOT" afford to buy anything too cheap.

It just cost too much money to go cheap.

I know a few things because I have seen a few things.

I have high HP goals, and the possibly of making 1000hp capable setup is appealing. However the engine is a mostly stock 350 c.I. right now and I'm not a good judge when it comes to matching turbocharger size.
So here's my question, on a mildly modified ls6, what size turbochargers should I be looking for to make the most power in the midrange and top end?

You need to review that principle regarding:
1) Low Price
2) High Quality
3) Good Service ................. that is the general list, I think.

Now pick TWO.

Hopefully I can get more feedback from people who have experience with inexpensive turbocharging, ls engine or not. Other than eBay turbo sizing, info about cheaper ways to get any of the things listed that I still need is definitely appreciated.

Maybe I am an ebay skeptic but IMHO you need to add to the bottom of the "I need" list a second set of quality turbos for after the ebay ones self destruct way before you hope they will. Cheap and reliable dont go together with moving parts.

It's cheaper to buy a FI car than to build one. I've built more than a few and I like doing it as I get what I want. But I'd buy a nicely built SC car rather than build a TT esp if you don't need a lot of HP. 600 RWHP on the street is a handful. Over a 1000 in a C5 requires a lot of money and work on the drivetrain not to mention getting to 1000 RWHP.

Bill is correct. It will cost more money than you guess.
I never pay retail.
After the costs of the turbo or blower you will need to strengthen
the power plant. Big HP means Big brakes, you have to stop.
The suspension will need to be strengthened because of the
increased torq. The tranny will have to be built. You want a good tune ...$500 plus. It goes on and on.......
The cost is considerable even if you are cheap like me.
It's ok to dream, but reality. A good setup will be $10,000 plus.
Good luck.

"inexpensive DIY twin turbo c5"

I'm not sure those two descriptive expressions (inexpensive and twin turbo) should ever be used in the same sentence.
