I have another life as a 4runner guy with 270k miles on my '02. I spent some time in a new one and same thoughts. In fact just about every later-model car I've been in has had a wiggy transmission...

I have had 3 vettes and 1 mustang.....when I can no longer get into the vette I am going back to the mustang...hands down the mustang is easier to get in and out of for both me and the Mrs. having said that i am hoping that stage is still at least 15 years down the road.

This is an actual question, as I don't know the answer, but it's something else to think about; is there another V-8 powered vehicle (besides the C5) that's capable of 12 second 1/4 mile times AND gets 30 MPG on the highway? I'd say this is a pretty remarkable accomplishment...

Yep, you're right. Ford claims the 2018 GT will get 32 MPG with the 10 speed auto...I would've never guessed it because the Mustang doesn't have the aerodynamics of the Vette...learn something new every day!

However, they claim the 4cyl Turbo Ecoboost model is rated at 31mpg with 310hp.

Ford doesn't claim that. Ford's own website says the GT is 15 City and 25 Highway.

Yep, I was looking at the 4 cylinder rating, not the GT...

As an old Ford guy in my Hot Rodding days of the '60's and '70's. Never compared the Mustang with the Vette. Only the Camaro. They were both pony cars. The Vette, a sports car to be compared with Vipers and GT40's ;-)

The mustangs are killers in the corners too. Several of them run against several of C5, and other vettes...all things being equal with drivers, the new mustangs handle well.

I know they now have independent rear suspensions and now handle generally well, but there's still a huge weight difference between a C5Z and a Mustang GT. Not to mention aerodynamics, lower center of gravity, and weight distribution. When I see Nurburgring lap times for both it'll be clear which is the faster sports car. 0 to 60 is just one of many performance stats.

Being equal drivers the C5 will absolutely DESTROY ANY Mustang. PERIOD. End of story. Do not even try to convince yourself or anyone otherwise. I have Not been passed by many Mustangs on track. The only ones that compete with. C5 are full race prep Mustangs or a stock Shelby GT 350. I don't care how fast the Mustang is in a straight line the C5Z will eat its lunch in the corners. A decent driver should be able to get on the throttle early enough in the corners to make up most of that difference. Having driven against MANY Mustangs on track they sway like a boat and are fat pigs in the corners (unless HEAVILY modified) That's a fact.

I always laugh at how butt hurt some people get in posts like this. If the C5 killed the new Mustang you wouldn't be hearing how it didn't count cause the two don't compare to each other! And I say this as a proud C5 owner. Heck many new sedans will take a C5 these day, auto evolution. Now lets compare the C7 to the new Mustang....Another story.
