Default Did I get a good deal?

I kept seeing this C6 parked next to a garage about 1/2 a block from my house. The other day I stopped to check it out and I noticed it had aftermarket wheels. Today I saw the guy sitting in his garage so I stopped and asked him if he still had the original factory wheels that came on the car. He said he did, so I asked if he'd be interested in selling them. He said he is. If he had asked me to make him an offer, I would've offered him $500 for all 4, but he offered them to me for $400. I told him he had a deal. They are in perfect shape, but they still have the original tires on them, so I'm waiting until he has the tires removed. I don't want the old tires. They are not the polished versions, they are the silver powder coat versions, which didn't really matter to me because I'm having them chromed. What should I expect for a reasonable amount for the chrome work? $600-$800? They look like these:

I think that's a great deal.

I'm not sure what's a good price for chrome. Powder coat usually runs about $125-$175 a wheel.

I got the factory chrome version.....LOVE THEM

Once you get them chromed you need to get a set of repro center caps and C5 Wheel decals.

You don't want to be driving around with C6 emblems on a C5 now do you?

Your car is absolutely gorgeous! What year is it? That's exactly the look I'm going for (and the exact model and color I want too). To be totally honest, I didn't think they made chrome versions of these wheels...in all of my searching for them all I ever saw was the silver powder coat and the polished...I never saw chrome ones, but I'm guessing the chrome ones would probably cost me at least $1200 a set, which is roughly what I'll have in these once I get them chromed...also, what size tires are you running, and is your car lowered? It looks like these tires/wheels fill the wheel wells a bit better than the stock sizes do....

Sorry, but why would you buy wheels for a car you don't have? What if the car you finally buy already has wheels you like?

That's like asking someone why they bought a plot at the cemetery if they're not dead yet. Dumb question. To answer your 2nd question, I've been looking at C5s for sale for over a year now, probably seen 1000 or more, and I've only seen one that had these wheels on it. Chances are the one I end up buying won't have them...if it does, then I have a backup set of wheels...

With all due respect , it is difficult to read your comments when you don't own a corvette. You have no dog in the fight as they say. You make some good points, but have no vette ! You make comments and have no vette ! Don't you see how that looks ? It's one thing to join the forum and read because you like corvettes, but over 800 posts ? And your right, some people are annoyed by it and have something to say and purposely view your threads with " not again " ! And here I thought you finally got one! But no, just wheels. I'm sure you're a nice fellow, but till you have what this forum is about, that's the way I view you. Good luck with what ever you do and I hope you get the car of your dreams, because they are really nice. I don't want to go back and forth, just the way I feel.

At least you're not nasty about it like some are (ET, Yello95), and I can see why a guy with no Vette posting all the time would be annoying to some, but believe me, I'm not trying to be annoying, just trying to find out as much about this car as I can before I buy one. To those I annoy, I apologize, and I'll try not to be as annoying, but I won't stop posting...

I don't really mind it and I certainly get your enthusiasm for C5 corvettes, as I have had the fever most of my life. When are you gonna bust that wallet out and plunk down on one?

And, OP I think that is a very fair deal on the rims. They should look great when done!

Well, at least you'll be an informed buyer when you're ready to purchase. I bought first one I saw and THEN read all the stuff about the car. I was blessed with a good choice but learning first is best. Another thing, you will make a real bang on the forum when you finally get one !!

I plan on treating myself with a retirement gift in 2 years and 9 months...might be a bit sooner than that if I save the funds I'm looking to have by then...

ask as many questions as you want, buy what ever you want...its your time and your dime. Not sure why any one would care about your vette status......if people dont like your theads then they should move on.

I'll be very surprised if you actually close the deal and take possession of the rims!

Yes, that's a decent deal on the wheels.

And it's not a requirement to own a Vette to participate on the forum, so continue to ask questions and make comments. Once you do find the right car, you'll be well informed.

Like another poster said, you will definitely have the knowledge to make the right purchase by then. I would have a hard time waiting that long!
