Default C5 Red Caliper Covers

I was thinking about putting a set of these on my 02. I probably looked at 5 different websites. Only 1 of them said it would not fit with the C6 Z06 Spyder wheels? I am thinking about buying these wheels in the stock sizes. I found it odd that only one site said this. Anyone try and put them on a C5 with these type wheels?

Not a fan of the covers, pull the calipers off and paint them, just my opinion but I think it cheapens the look...and I've heard they could be dangerous if they fly off.

Seen those covers on some Vettes at car shows, but I think painted calipers look much better IMO.

Just out of curiosity how much do you think it would be to powder coat them?

Someone else can chime in about powder coat prices, I have no experience with that. I did paint my calipers with a G2 self leveling caliper paint and I'm please with the results. I had to pay extra for my kit because I ordered paint that matches the color of my car. But if you just want the standard colors, you can get out the door for less than $50 and do it yourself. Or if you are up for it, take the calipers off the car and rattle can it for super cheap.

I agree - I'm not a fan of the caliper covers. I painted mine using Folia Tec calipermpaint and it was less than $40 to do the job myself. The calipers have been painted for over seven years and still look like new.

Did you remove the calipers or paint them without removal?

It can be done either way.....

Not a hard DIY job, take your time and let the paint dry.....

You could also wait till pad change time and do it both then. If you do take them off find something to sit or hang them from.

It's been a good 8 or 9 yrs since I painted mine, but I did it with the calipers still installed.. just used lots of newspapers and tape to seal everything I didn't want oversprayed, including the quarter panels (just to be safe), and I used some kinda high heat red paint.. then I carefully painted the lettering black.. still looks perty good all these yrs later

I have several small bleached areas on my calipers and what I would prefer to do rather than painting is restore them to original finish. On another thread a forum member used Busch HD Aluminum Cleaner which appeared to work great. Has anyone else done anything that they could share to bring back the calipers to their original finish?
Thanks for any insights you can share!

The 00 I just bought has the covers and I agree that they make it look cheap. They are coming off this winter, and I will paint the calipers.

If you ever see these on a Corvette at a Corvette show, hang around the car and listen to the comments made by bystanders and participants. I think you will choose to paint or powder coat your calipers instead.

I had the same question awhile back. The overwhelming response was to paint them. So I did. Bought this inexpensive kit and am quite please with the results. Put 3 coats and still have plenty of paint left for future touch ups.

Painted over the letters on the fronts. When the paint was completely dry I used a razor blade to scrape the paint off. Great results.
