HID Foglamp kit
Has anyone here installed the HID foglamp kit from Radioflyer Innovations? I ordered the kit and then read the install sheets and it looks kinda difficult to install. So I messed up not reading it was a kit and thinking it was just bulbs... If anyone has bought this and installed it please chime in as to how the install went and any pointers or pics would be appreciated. Thanks!!

FYI,
The stock fog lamps are real projectors already. All they need is a decent HID kit and you will have some very useful lights! I have done it on both of my C5s and I often run only my HID white fogs until it gets really dark.

jrprich is there away to just change the bulb that is 'whiter'? Or do you need to get a full kit with ballasts etc.?

Me, too. I just wish they had clear lenses, because then my 6-on-at-once mod would be even more of "the bomb" . My son said that with all 6 hids on at once already it's like daylight in the pitch black night!

My HID kit was easy to install. The hardest part was simply figuring out where I wanted the ballasts mounted, so I'm puzzled about someone saying it is time consuming. Then again, I did not get one from Radio Flyer. Is there a link for those somewhere?

The install is not that difficult, the hardest part being the tight quarters in getting to the lights and bulbs. The HID kit includes the bulbs, but as they are HID bulbs they require the ballast for each bulb and the wiring harness to ensure proper power for startup. RadioFlyer’s kit includes also a cradle to hold each ballast. The standard bulb in the fog lights are I believe 35 watt and you can replace them with a 55 watt version that will improve the output, but nowhere near what you will achieve with an HID bulb. There are probably LED bulbs that would fit, but I have not seen them.
Mine (fog light lens) is far from clear....mine is frosted and its like shining light thru a magnified lens.
May need a new lens.

I am referring to not having the yellow tint as most Euro versions have, or are you speaking to what looks to be the frosted lens on the light vs a crystal clear lens?

I also question whether they can be called 'projectors " just because of their shape. Years ago we had fog lights and driving lights. It was the lens that determined the beam shape.

Other than halogen bulbs that have that blue tint to them I don't know a way to get the stock halogen bulbs to look whiter. As I understand it, the color of the light is determined by the color temperature that the light produces. Halogen bulbs do not usually come in different color temps. With HIDs there is a wide range of different color temps available with 5000k-6000k being the "whitest and brightest.

As I posted, I went HID long ago and have had great results. I no longer have any halogen bulbs in my exterior lighting.
But HIDs need to be in light housing that is a projector design (which the fog housings are) not a reflector like you find in stock headlights.
HID "kits" with 2 bulbs, 2 ballasts, and a relay wiring harness can be had from about $35 and up. I prefer the "slim" ballasts, as they are easier to mount. Quality varies, usually but not always following the price. I have had "cheap kits" last over 10 years but also had some fail.
Once you have your new relay wiring harness installed it is pretty easy to replace a failed ballast or bulbs.

Open up one of the OEM fog light housings.
They are true projector housings with a cut-off bar.
They will not be as sharp or focused as a modern projector, but they are projectors.
Originals were made by Blazer, if I recall correctly
