Winter storage options? Self storage ? Mall Parking Garages?
Long story short I am moving and won't have a garage .
What are my storage options to avoid snow and salt?
A 10 x 20 unit here at a self storage facility is almost $300! Some places $335 (North NJ) That won't be an option for me.
I've been thinking of everything.. Parking my car (when it's expected to snow) at the mall parking deck garage (probably illegal and they might tow me) or parking it underneath some office building to protect it from snow.
Throwing a cover on it and keeping it in my condo complex that I am moving to isnt an option, the parking is crowded and a lot of snow/slush will get in I'm sure.
Any other clever and unexpensive ideas? I've heard of some far upstate NY rural places charge only $100 for 10 x 20 units but I've yet to find any.

$300!
I thought $127 was bad as I had to rent one in winter time for my 98.
Definitely shop around. Smaller towns will be cheaper.

Danny99, I feel your pain not having a garage. My C5 04 vert sets outside all year long. I use a top up cover to protect the convert top but I do not mind snow/rain to touch the car. The car will not melt! I just make sure I have layers of polish on the surface of the car. I drive the car during the winter when no snow or salt on the roads to keep the battery charged. I like driving the car all 12 months.

Any friends or neighbors that can rent or let you use their garage for free? Check with your elderly neighbors. When I was growing up my brother scored the garage across the street from us for his '79 Camaro. Older women, lived by herself and didn't drive with a 2-car garage. He parked it right in the middle and it gave her room to move around for lawn tools and such. He repaid her by shoveling snow for her or other odds and ends she may need help with.

Hello,
Just a thought; I too live in the northern climate and don't have access to a garage either. I'm not sure about your location, but I did some searching on the internet and found that the local fair grounds (about 15 miles away) rents there commercial buildings during the winter just for that purpose. They charged me by the linear foot so a month cost me roughly $28.00. Just thought I would throw it out there.

I've stored cars in those storage places before with no issues, although at the price you mentioned that is outrageous.
Maybe contact a car club in your area? We have a place that is indoors, heated, secure for $100 CAD a month but it was a fluke finding it. But I know there are lots of places in my area that are similar priced. They even have outlets so you can hook a battery tender up over the winter.

Call around to some of the area speed shops and see if they have room. I used Race Proven Motorsports on winter for storage as their shop is huge. And while it was there I had them install a new cam too!

Post in the north east section and ask if anyone knows of a cheap place that's near you.

No way would I park it in a parking garage, especially overnight. You are just asking for someone to vandalize it. If you are that concerned about it, rent an enclosed storage spot. Do you have any friends or relatives nearby that might have extra space in their garage?

Try checking craigslist - people sometimes list unused garage space for rent.

No way I would leave my car overnight somewhere other than home. Especially if no one was going to be around.
