Burning Brakes
Hey John:
I took notes! So I will give you an overview of the topics that were discussed at.....no charge!
1. C5/C6 Tops
a. Use a foaming, ammonia-free glass cleaner (so as not to dry out weatherstripping). Cleanliness is key! Even some who take excellent care of their coupes fail to keep the tops/pins clean.
b. Use torque wrench to tighten pin brackets to 16-18 ft. lb.
c. Lube pins
d. Use GM Lubricant Part #3634770 for $46.69 for weatherstripping protection and conditioning. Use latex gloves, takes 30 minutes, cost is considerably less than replacing weatherstripping at $600!
https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...ricant-3634770.
e. There is a YouTube vid on Noisy C6 Removable tops by Paul & Brittany:
2. TPMS- Tire Pressure Monitoring System- According to GM, TPMS Sensors were designed to last 10 yrs. Some last more, some less. (An interesting comment was that in general, the more one drives their C5/C6, better the car's electrical components will work, and for a longer period of time.) TPMS emits radio waves, like a key FOB. C5 and C6 use different sensors. Sensors read ONLY when wheels are turning. Therefore, any "garage" reading is from just before it was last parked. Use GM sensors, taking care to install correctly, as there are different torque specs for C5 and C6. GM sees no benefits to using Nitrogen vs. regular air (which is 86% Nitrogen!) to fill tires.
3, ABS/Traction Control/Active Handling- With the aging of the C5 (97's are now 20 yrs. old), earlier PCM's are beginning to fail. There is a co. in MN remanufacturing PCM's. Follow manual instructions to clear codes, using Reset Button.
4. C5/C6 Ride Control- With C5 F55 Mag Ride, there may be a slight oil film on top part of shock, which is ok. Only when they are actually leaking do they need to be replaced. Do NOT lower cars with F55, such as 50th Anniversary Model, as this can RUIN YOUR SHOCKS, which cost some $700 ea. (X4) to replace.
5. C5 Headlight repairs- the bad: I needed to leave seminar and did not hear. The good: the seminar was recorded and may be posted on YouTube shortly, as other Paul Koerner Seminars have been.
Respectfully submitted,
Rickman

I didn't see any C5 deals. The cheapest C5's on the Fairgrounds (10 to 12 grand) had rebuild titles. Everything else had unrealistically high asking prices.
One very nice 64, blue fuelie convertible sold quickly in the high 50's. That was a deal.

They all look too high for the product.....
But make an offer on the one you like...it is whats it's worth to you, most they can say is no.

damn! I'm thinking they aren't really interested in selling, they simply bought a sales spot to make sure they had a good parking spot. There are cheaper ways to park inside, where you get a T shirt too.....

OK someone needs to X-plain to me why people when going to sell there C-5 can't get anything for it not worth nothing he offered me what WA WA but when they see prices that I think for the miles and the Opps. and how nice these C-5 are in are in the ball park just bitch and mooon about how high they are . I think the prices are fine why you ask , I have one I might want to sell someday and would like to get something for .. Can't have it both ways ..

I think the best prices can be had on the last day in the last hours of the show. If you're really buying and the sellers really want to move that car, a good deal can be had!

Seems like those selling were looking for an impulse buyer which given the environment it's very possible to happen. The dealership/person selling those cars pictured obviously have no issue with their Corvettes sitting.

Yes the prices did seem high, but you never know - someone may pay the price.

I was gonna say you're all wet, but seeing you are from Houston I will rather say I am praying for the safety of you, your family and community during Harvey.
Let's review. Shown in the post are 5 ea. C5 Verts:
04 w 19,500 mi. for $29,900
04 w 7,000 mi. for $28,900
04 w 11,000 mi. for $28,900 (granted, this is a Commemorative)
00 w 22,500 mi. for $21,500 obo
03 w 54,000 mi. for $21,900
Certainly these cars lean toward the trailer queen side in both condition and mileage. I was at Carlisle yesterday and, like CapeVettes, saw absolutely NO good deals on C5s!
Unlike last year at Carlisle, I found C5 prices to be outrageous. One can either bitch and moan, or simply walk away, as I did! Clearly these prices are in the middle of C6 territory.
I did see a couple of good deals, however, on C3s & C4s. Regarding the CAC Show, it was yet another (my 23rd or 24th consecutive) fantastic gathering. I especially enjoyed the seminar by Dave McLellan on Corvette's Future and the C5/C6 seminar by Paul Koerner and Brittany George.

I have to agree with Radar502. Whenever C5 prices are discussed on the forum, there is a large contingency who immediately say they are too high and you can buy a C6 for that price. First, there are some folks who maybe-just maybe-want a C5 not a C6. Second, the cars shown in this post are for the most part ultra clean and ultra low mileage units.
These prices are reflective of those prices foundadvertised all over the country by classic Corvette dealers. Very clean, very low mileage examples are in demand and are still not bringing what ultra low mileage C6's are bringing. There is simply no substitute for the perfectly original low mileage car and many find them worth paying for.

I finally saw some reality today - a clean red '00 coupe with 58k miles st $15.5 - close to what I paid for my car.. And strangely - I had 2 other people tell me today that a non-Z06 FRC is worth hanging on to. Had a few beers last night at the Irish pub with the guys who were doing the installs st the Kooks tent - they were pretty funny....

Agreed, it makes more sense for me to buy in December but I was passing through and thought I'd see what Carlisle had to offer. Prices on C5 and late C3 seemed almost ridiculously high. Priced for the uninformed buyer.
