Tomorrow I'm going to drive a '78 Pace Car and a '03 50th to finally figure out what the hell I want.

The raw, light, iconic Corvette or the world class modern sports car.

I looked for one for about a year; they do bring a bit of a premium over other C5s, especially the very low mileage ones. Not necessarily "collectible" but I wanted one in my collection!

I have a 2003 Z06 "anniversary" car.

IMO, it was an afterthought and not a significant or true collectible. In fact, the silver corvette anniversary emblems (silver) were in rough shape. So I ripped them off and replaced with glossy black.

Will not add value, it's just a badge and a monogramed/embroidered user manual cover. And they key has the 50th emblem.

I'm under no illusion that the 50th is any real special collector car. It is equipped the way I like with a sharp looking paint job.

Nice mileage, but that top doesn't match.

Only in the picture, it's the original.

No comparison, take that from someone that has owned quite a few. Check out my profile page albums.

The 78 Pace Car is fun because it's distinctive - -but I had the Silver Anniversary and although it was a nice car, performance wise it was a pooch compared to any C5 on the road. Interior space in any C3 is at a premium - -the C5 coupe especially- are comfortable road cars with suitable performance.

Be interested in your thoughts.

CQRT - the rims on you're AE look a bit different, are they aftermarket?

I sat in the 1978 even though the exterior inspection indicated I should skip the car. No one bothered to come out, tiny used lot on a beautiful day. So I neverdrove it. Second time I've sat one in two weeks, feels cramped. My fat *** doesn't even fit in the buckets. I wonder if I'd tire of the fun quickly. I want my Corvette to be a weekend road trip warrior.

The 50th Anniversary didn't seem like the 30K mile machine as advertised. I'm not a paint job junkie but the paint is a huge part of the package, being dirty the paint seemed to have a lot of scratches. I don't think the HUD was working. Interior bits seemed worn or broken. It didn't feel like $19.9 when there is 70K one in Waco TX for $14K I should try.

14K is as good an asking price for one of these that I've seen, only one I ever saw that got down in that range had 110k, some bad mods, and the mag ride shocks were clearly shot--was like riding on a milk crate. If the Waco one checks out nicely, I'd ****** it up. Coincidentally, I bought mine in Killeen.

Yes, these things are not easy to respray so check the paint, and also the condition of the wheels and the top (if convertible) as they are a unique color and hard to come by if you want to keep it original. If the shocks are leaking, I'd consider that a deal-breaker as its either quite expensive to replace or a bit of a hassle to modify to standard shocks. Bring your list of DIC codes with you, took me a while to find one that didn't have a list a mile long. In interior trim issues, I saw a lot of tearing drivers seat bolsters and cracked seating surfaces, deteriorating A-pillar trim, rotting sun visors, dark HVAC displays, and it seems like the ignition key surrounds are often broken. I had to replace a 50th fender badge, and those are getting crazy expensive as there aren't a lot left.

This! I bought mine with 116K on it and it hasn't fail to start once! I've replaced the adjustable shocks with bilstein sports and never looked back. I bought mine to drive. I don't understand the concept of "garage queen".

Damn, the dealer really wants to move that car. They called me twice asking what they can do. It's online price is $19.9 but I don't think I want it even at $16K.
