As
I picked up my first vette a month ago after 2 years or so of looking and deliberation. 02 bone stock except for the rims with 9700 miles on it when I bought it. I couldn't be happier and I'm so excited about it. I catch myself just smiling when I drive it the whole time. This forum has been an invaluable source of what to look for and general information. The hardest part was deciding which body type. Initially I had decided a regular with convertible, but when I saw this one I knew it was the one for me.

Looks great, nice low miles, antenna is the other non factory item. I smile every day before and after work also, still after about 4 years.
Any plans? Keeping the chrome wheels?
Edit; P.S. have the valve springs been replaced, skip shift eliminator installed?

I'll have to check on valve springs. How would I know? Shift 1-4 light comes on but doesn't stop me from what I've read that means it's been installed (only happened twice). Going to keep the Crome wheels but will buy a set of speed lines once funds are available just so I know I have the stock wheels too lol. I don't intend to do a lot at this point, just kind of enjoy it for what it is. It is my first manual (learned in my buddies boxter red with the top down). It's harder and harder to find a used c5 at a dealer in good shape. So many had a myriad of small issues and dry rotted tires which add up.

To check the springs I used a cheap borescope connected to my smartphone. Remove the oil fill cap and Insert the camera. If the springs are yellow, like mine, you're at risk and should consider changing the springs eventually . If you don't have a borescope remove a valve cover to check.

You can remove a valve cover, or buy/borrow a boroscope to look down the oil fill tube. If they're yellow, you're living on the edge with an 02-03 according to many.
1-4 light comes on... can you shift 1-2 at low speed, low throttle? Or does it force 1-4?
Speaking of dry rotted tires; with that low miles, what is the date on yours?

That's a beautiful Z with very very low miles! Is the interior black? As others have stated, I'd look into the valve spring issues that occurred in the 02-03 model years. Read the thread below and figure out if you want to replace or leave your stock springs (assuming your springs are the stock ones). I just changed mine last week. I did the work myself and it was a fun project.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-z06-discussion/3069497-build-date-vin-analysis-of-ls6-valve-spring-failures.html

When I bought my 02 Z it came with chrome wheels just like yours. I also wanted to have a set of stock wheels. I ended up with a full set of Speedlines and another full set of Alcoas. Didn't really intend to buy two sets of stock wheels but that's how it worked out. When you get ready to buy a set PM me.

Enjoy that car!

Congrats... I did the same thing earlier this year. Picked up a one-owner '04 C5Z with 8600 miles on it & chromies... tho mine is red. Documented service history, new tires, skip shift eliminator, column lock/bypass, tint, & a spare airdam. Like you, I couldn't be happier with both the car and the deal.

Thanks all! Appreciate your enthusiasm. Yeah column lock was done by previous owner. 1-4 shift lets me go into whatever gear even with light on so that was done too. I'd be surprised if the valve springs aren't done, but I'll take a look at that soon. I'm in upstate ny so there is only a small amount of days prolly 2 months I can still enjoy the car on the road. During the winter I'll just pour a beverage and sit in the garage admiring it. Yeah black interior too minty as one would expect from its mileage. I had initially started out for a more used car aiming for 50-60 k miles so I'd feel less guilty driving it more places but the difference in prices was negligible for the car I got. There are still a good many low mileage zs available and I doubt there can be a better time to buy one. I'm trying to convince the wife she needs her own too, but I haven't had much luck yet.

Somebody mentioned the tires. They are Goodyear f1 eagle super car tires. What were the original tires I can't seem to find that? I can't find the DOT date I'm guessing it's on the inner wall so when I have it looked at I'll get them dated.

If they are the original tires

It doesn't matter what the tread looks like change them. You don't want them disintegrating when you are using the car. I have an 02 I bought about 6 years ago with 9100 miles on it. It has 55K now. It is a great car fun on track and if the GD Limp Home mode wouldn't occur right before a track day I'd have more hair. Enjoy yours and use it like it should be used. They will take some abuse. I've not done the valve springs on mine and knock on wood I've not had any issues with occasionally daily driving it and doing some track days and autocross.

That's the OEM tire, so I would definitely check! Most buy other brands when replacing, as there are better for less loot.

Congrats!! I picked up a C5Z last month with 17K miles and it's immaculate. I'm like a kid at Christmas time.

Hey what have you guys had to give money wise for these low mile beauties? I'm looking at picking a <10,000 mile 02. Just wondering a good starting point would be?
