Default C5 makes Hagerty's list for 2017

They say C5 hit rock bottom in pricing and collectability is in the future, especially the Z06.

Not really. What I take from it is get one soon 12-24 months. The Mint-Cream Puff C5 market will probably start drying up in the same period...IMHO.

I don't think the mint cream puff market will ever dry up. Thankfully, most C5 owners take damn good care of their cars, however, I do see the prices going up for the cream puffs...

While I didn't buy at the exact bottom of the market, but I knew it was coming. I bought about five years ago. Most used corvettes around town now are C6's.

since I am not in the market as a seller, this news is expected and not a problem. Just puts a reality check on spending , kind of crosses off the four thousand dollar wheels if you car is worth $12000.

Look at it more from the perspective of how long you'll own it.

If you're keeping it another 20 years, then the car will be worth the price of the wheels plus you got to enjoy them while you owned the car.

Personally, when my Zo6 eventually needs a paint job to stay looking like a 10, I'll eat the cost knowing I'll probably have the car another 40 years on top of the 11 I've known it.

Hmmmm, lets see here. I got an 04 base Coupe:

34,064 units were built in 04, 16,165 were Coupes, out of those coupes
2,438 were Torch Red.

Summation, With that many I don't think mine will be sky rocketing in price anytime soon.

That is until it's time for you to sell it to me

2. 1997-2004 Chevrolet Corvette

This generation of C5 Corvettes has fully depreciated now, so it’s a good time to get in on the action before prices start going up again. The average price for a C5 Corvette is about $15,000, but the one you want is the more powerful and rare Z06, which will be more money.

Sweet, I'll take $40K for mine

Too bad they want way to much to ensure them.

Glad to read this as I am 4 months onto my first C5. BTW, the picture in the article is about the worst one I have seen of any undamaged Corvette.

This is interesting. I'm no economist but I would have thought for sure they'd drop way under 10k to levels similar to the C4. But hey, no complaints! Just bought mine in April so I guess I hit at just the right time.

Great. Now all the C5 Z06 owners in my area are going to think their cars are valued the same as a C6 Z06..... some are pricing their C5Z's pretty close already - as they sit for sale for months and months with zero bites.

If they sit for months prices will come down.

I'm gonna be rich!!
(Actually, it's because I got a full tank of gas just before the crazy hike. I can clear about $.60 per gallon on the gas in the car)!
