The first vette I ever had was a'92 with a six peed manual. All three vetted since that one have been automatic....for a good reason.

I actually know exactly what you mean. Neither me or my wife has ever owned an automatic vehicle. I've driven a few auto corvettes and a couple other auto cars, but sometimes it will be months, if not close to a year, without me driving an auto car.

For the life of me I have no idea how to drive an automatic. I always give just a little too much throttle and it downshifts at the worst time possible for me, or upshifts way before I want it to. If you drive either really aggressively or really slowly, then it feels alright but there isn't a good middle ground for me.

Teach your wife to drive a manual, if she's anything like mine she won't ever want to go back.

Well if you look carefully, he said "6 peed manual" so I take it 6 people peed on his '92 manual and ever since he just buys the autos. I'm not sure what that has to do with buying an automatic though, it's not the transmission's fault.

Maybe it was 6 trannies that peed on it?

Pretending an auto is a manual by shifting it is something I would have done when I was 16.

All this hate for automatics and so I have to wonder just how many you have EVER BEEN ON A TRACK before in their lives, much less driven their vette hard on a road course. From what I've gathered being on the forum for 15+ years, most of you warriors squeeze second gear, shift into third and let of the gas and feel totally impressed with yourselves

Fill in your name and times below:

1/4 mile list:

1)
2)
3)
4)

Road course drivers:

1)
2)
3)
4)

And? If I find it more fun to drive a car with a t56 than a transmission designed for an s10, why wouldn't I?

Because you aren't driving a truck. It's still a corvette brother

I am in the process of selling my cars plan to pick up a 2018 supercharged Z06 7 speed and all you hear in the C7 section is how much better the automatic is.

I would challenge anyone here who thinks all autos drive the same to meet me on a 1/4 mile track. Most of the warriors here are plus 13 second cars. So they drive sticks, they are not drivers. And are slow as a truck.

Hahah

I've got news for you, buddy... the 8 speed in the c7 is not the same as a 4l60e.

Look at what 4l60's are used in, 90% are trucks. Just because they put it in a corvette, doesn't make it a suitable sports car transmission.

My 4l60 has been 9.51 on a 100 shot, I wouldn't me in the category of a truck. Same as I wouldn't put the people here with six speeds with a honda even though many would probably give a stock C5 a good race.
There's a lot of Miata's out there that will put up a good race though

im not saying it's a bad transmission or that you can't go fast in one, but it sure does suck the fun out of street driving for me.

Your logic is just silly though. Just because people can't drive fast means they shouldn't be allowed to enjoy their car with the transmission they choose?

I can bench press less than half of the world record bench, should I quit powerlifting and just do water aerobics?

By the way, I am still waiting for a C6 or C7 auto or stick N/A stock cube motor to beat my 346 times with a 4L60

I mean if you put enough money into any setup you can make them work, they just usually become one trick. I swear I've seen something from the '90s or '00s that someone put a built up 2-speed into. But that car was obviously trailered and not driven there, who would want to deal with a 2-speed on the street? I'm no auto hater, but for me it's gotta have at least 5 gears these days as 4 speed feels way too long in tooth.

I've seen plenty of fast cars with a 4 speed auto, but I'm reminded of the old one I had where when cruising at about 65-70 mph it took little effort to get an unintended shift down to 3rd and then right back to 4th. The added gears help the car not need to downshift so much or to bog in one gear. Although extra gears doesn't always help, the 6 speed auto I had in my Coyote sucked all the fun out of that car for me.

No one is bashing, you're getting offended and being a dick because of it.

No one said anything bad about either transmission until you started talking about how because the average corvette driver isn't a pro, they shouldn't talk about which transmission they prefer.
