I have a simple request for all the haters. Go in the garage or wherever your car is. Take a good look at it. Is that that spoiler on the back of yours?

If not, sigh, smile and move on...

Im not a huge "racing" spoiler guy as far as appearances go, nor am I big on decals or a couple different things you've done in regards to my own car. But I will say that I saved about every one of the pics you posted of it, and I've done that of maybe 2 other members... so theres that. Overall cool as hell. hahaha,

That C5R wing is mounted on supports which go down to the frame. The OPs is mounted on top of the deck lid. I'm sure that it makes functional down force. I run APR 500 wing on mine but it definitely is mounted down to the frame. I can sit on no problem .Name: photo509.jpg

WOW!!!! Your car is what I want my 99 red hatchback to look like. I've been wanting to put a wing like yours on mine. Love the three hood vents. Pros and come on the hood vents. Also how do you know adjustment on rear wing, and can you tell the difference on down force? Ty for sharing pictures of a car I want mine to look like. Rick Indianapolis In.

WOW I want my red 99 hatchback to look like yours. I'm debating on pulling the trigger on the three hood vents. I love the look. What are the pros and cons on the hood vents? How do you know to adjust rear wing and can you feel the difference with the wing. Ty for sharing your pictures and knowledge. Rick Indianapolis In.

I like what you added to the car to make it yours . Only issue with me is the BSMs lol.

I cut the vents in the hood to relieve underhood pressure at very high speeds. Around 160mph, the front end on these cars gets noticeably light, which is a real spooky sensation. That's about the time when your brains start fighting your ***** for control of your right foot

I actually located mine farther forward on the hood than what is suggested by Trackspec Motorsports (manufacturer of the vents I have) based on GM factory works team aero data, which suggests the highest pressure zone under the hood is around a foot and a half away from the leading edge (I want to say 17" aft of the leading edge, but I don't have the data in front of me). Trackspec has you putting them smack in the middle, where the center panel sits directly over the center of the intake manifold (kind of a useless place for it in my opinion).

I have no negatives to speak of when it comes to their functionality, or quality. Water intrusion does nothing, and they add much needed stability at speeds around/above where my typical one mile event lands me. They help with cooling in the summer months, although the PNW where I live never gets REALLY hot, I have observed a measurable drop in my underhood, coolant, and gearbox temps. I get compliments on them all the time too

I adjust the AoA (angle of attack) of the wing using a straight edge, and a plumb bob. The attached picture shows how that is done to some degree. Here's a bit of good information for you guys that, like me, enjoy reading the technical stuff! At JUST zero degrees AoA, at only 80mph, this wing makes 151 lbs of downforce, and only 17 lbs worth of drag (672 newtons is 151 lbs, the graphs are all in newtons). I don't know about you, but I can DEFINITELY feel 150 lbs on the back of my sub 3000lb car at that speed A lot of NASA spec cars with 2-4" functional front splitters run the APR GTC300 at an AoA around 5° to 7° much more, and all you're doing is helping your braking coming into corners. I will attach an image of the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) data on the wing. As you can see, there is a point of diminishing return, as with all airfoils.

I actually keep the BSM's because they have been proven to make enough of an improvement aerodynamically, that they deserve to stay. I have again, attached enlightening reading materials on the subject. Enjoy

My sooner rather than later plan is to totally rebuild the nose of the car, add a functional splitter and canards, as well as retool all of the ducting to transform it into a front breather, and vent it out the hood. This tremendously cuts down on high pressure under the car, drag caused by air being captured under the hood, and done correctly, the ducting actually adds to front end downforce beyond what the splitter and canards supply.

I was going to do this over the holiday season this last year, but my wife and I fell into the opportunity of a life time to buy our dream property, and we are right in the middle of it all. We are actually meeting with our realtor today to accept bids on our house we are moving out of I have never had a shop (or garage for that matter ) of my own, and this property has a 1300 squarefoot shop, and 3 car heated garage attached to the house! If waiting to complete it all means I get to do it in my dream shop, I will gladly wait

Very interesting information on the affect that BSMs have on air flow and downforce... haven't seen/heard that before. Thanks for sharing!

That's some great info Erik. Thanks for sharing. Making the draw for some added aero to my FRC more enticing all the time...

OMG !!!! That picture of your car should be on a car magazine cover. That's exactly how I want my red 99 to look like.

Nice C-5 but to make it this simple the way the wing is mounted is just holding the trunk lid down .. I like the look but not doing what you think its doing ,just sitting on top of the trunk lid no just a look at me deal .. Need to do your home work down force needs to go down to the frame not the trunk lid .. at 150 MPH with any down force would crush the lid ... It is just for looks and does look kinda cool ..

Thanks...have you read the rest of the thread??? Read back a few pages. I know what I am doing.

I plan on that, but the car has got to stay a street car for now. I'm not going to disable an especially useful function of the car, to accommodate frame mounting it at this time. It is a work in progress.

Also, I have already been 150mph with it at an AoA of 0°, and 128 @ 5° No problems, and no signs of undue stress to the hatch.
