Yes, it will. Ran this set up for years (over a decade...I'm the original owner, so I'm 15+ years in with this car) until I mini-tubbed the rear and now run a 345/30-19 NT05R.

305/35-18 555R in rear, 275/40-17 555 in front will work fine.

Would these be grippier than the NT05 or NT05R?

What about NT01?

I was thinking of staying w/ NT05 in 275/40R17 for front since they wear well & 305/35R18 in NT01 out back (or NT05R or NT555R - something in that size but grippier than standard NT05)

NT555R is going to provide better grip than NT05. I cannot speak of the NT01. NT05R is better than all for straight line grip, but I do not believe that comes in a size that works with the stock 18x10.5 wheel... or at least it didn't when I was running stock sized wheels.

I have the NT555 on my Mustang. 275 front and 315 rear. I'll never buy these again. They have tons of tread left but have gotten hard and give me no traction. They are scary in the rain and hydroplane very easily.
The only plus is that since they are hard, they last a long time and I have lots of miles on them.

My Mustang has a lot less power than my C5Z and it spins the rear tires easily in 1st and 2nd. These would be a joke on the Vette.

He's talking about the 555R on the rear.

My TT C5Z has made over 650rwhp for 12+ years. I ran a 10.6 @ 138mph with the 555Rs on the rear. Obviously it didn't dead hook from a dig, but saying they don't hook at all is just misinformation.

I ran 555s on my SVT Lightning truck ('04 with KB blower) as a daily driver for years... no hydroplaning issues, and that is in a truck with a much poorer weight bias.

Obviously, to each his own.

And while I would never say these tires are the "be all, end all" for drag racing... they are a heckuva lot better than the stock type compound tires... for a stock or modded car.

A bit more confused than when i started. Maybe i keep bridgestone re760 on oem wheels for now and get wheel tire package in future with r888

Nothing wrong with that.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I want hook/grip in primarily a straight line on street/strip without a lot of compromise. Lots of guys in my shoes, with a relatively high-HP car, put 15s on the rear and get a soft-compound drag-only type tire. I didn't want that. 555R is a good compromise, where you can still enjoy the car on some back roads, but have significantly better straight line hook over the re760 or Goodyears/etc.

R888 is a great road race tire, that also provides some good straight line grip. If you have run a road race tire, then you know what to expect (teeth-rattling). I would also not drive those in the rain. But for a 2nd set of tires, that would be a good choice for a track-day tire you can easily drive on the street and enjoy, but then have another set for daily work.

This is as it sits currently... LPE mini-tub in rear to fit NT05R 345/30-19s on Fikse Profil 5 wheels 19x12.
