The replacement kit is inexpensive and you definitely want to control when you're making the replacement and do it at home or a shop versus the parking lot or after the car had to be towed.
True, I brought a jack to the car in the parking lot where my rear bushing broke and my daughter set the parking brake and stood on the brake pedal while I put it in gear by hand. Then I dropped it off the jack and drove it home so I could fix it in the driveway.
Really not the safest thing in the world to do.
This is definitely one job you should do as preventative maintenance. The front one breaking is a great warning that the back one is about ready to go.
If it's just the bushing here is what you need. Dorman 14041. The next to smallest bushing in the pack is the one that fits. All the parts stores have them AZ, O'Reily, ... About $6
Once you get the console apart and confirm it's the front bushing be very carful not to bend cable too much. The plast sleeeve can be moved a littlle bun not very much. If you try to bend it too far it will break. If it does it's new cable time. That's a real PITA to replace.
Holding the bushing in place snap onto the nipple with long handle channel locks or needle nose locking pliers.
I just wanted to thank the poster on this. This saved me so much time and hassle! 15 minutes had me up and going again! Thank you thank you!
