Default CD Changer Repair and Install 2004 Vet

I have a 2004 vet that had the 12 disk CD changer go bad. I sent it to Dr Don ( great guy) and had it repaired. On getting it back from Don he is saying to change the installment of the changer from a vertical to a horizontal position. I know many of you have had the same problem with this changer, did any of you re-install the changer in a different position, and if so, I am looking for any help/suggestions you can give. By the way, for any of you that need audio repair done, look to Dr Don’s in Huntsville Texas, great guy, great repair and reasonable price. Has worked on my 1992 and 2004 vet’s. Spot on service and never a problem with them again. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Do you have disk changer and is it operating without problems?

When I bought my car 5 years ago I bought 2 extra cartridges. I filled all three with freshly burnt CDs of all my favorite music. In the last five years and 25K miles, the CD player has been on 100% of the time. It has never missed a beat and worked perfectly. When I put the car in storage I remove the cartridge and store them in the house. I love my CD player.

Thanks for that information. I really appreciate your input and will re-install the unit as was.

Sitting at my computer and no pictures, so this post is probably worthless. BUT I had Dr. Don fix my changer, '03 vert. Like he told you, strongly suggested mounting horizontal as the vertical orientation makes the mechanism work against itself (as I remember Dr. Don's explanation.) Any way after fussing with it awhile I figured out a way to re-use the existing mounting hardware and got it horizontal. Didn't even have to pinch the control cables. Put some pillow foam under the unit and it rides pretty well and no problems. Unless you really need the small extra space the vertical mounting (and easy to install, I suppose) I suggest you puzzle it out awhile and mount it as Dr. Don suggests. Anyway as always, YMMV and good luck, enjoy the tunes!

Will it work perfectly for 16 more years if I mount it horizontally? I believe the CD player, like a lot of things, fail because of the long periods the cars sit idle in storage. Half their lives in most cases. The player was designed to work in a moving vehicle subject to bumps, bouncing, acceleration, deceleration, positive Gs, negative Gs and side Gs. I do not see how mounting it horizontally would make any difference.

Yes. Pretty much listen to CDs from the changer 95% of the time.
