I'm concerned the BB exhaust will have too much drone...

While not incorrect, have you ever spent any time around an LS swapped mustang? Or even F bodies sounding totally different, even with true duals.

Even the design of the pipes after the muffler make a difference. The placement and style of crossovers etc.

My buddy has a 413 LS3 in an SN95 with a set of 2 chamber flows and factory style 3" exhaust. I'll be damned if it doesn't still sound very mustang-ish.

I think the engine specific stuff affects more on when the sound happens harmonically.

I have LG street headers with their x-pipe and cats feeding into a Magnaflow catback exhaust. It has the type of sound I like, which is the bassy muscle car rumble at idle to more of a rumbly sound at cruise. Not loud but mellow until you get deep on the throttle, then it gets wide open.

I am around cars all day ranging from Smart cars to Lamborghinis. While you can make stangs and vettes from modern era sound good I can guarantee in a blind sound test you will never fool a gear head into thinking an LS is an old school chevy. Its actually impossible because of phyisics. And I have met many who want an LS to sound old school not just good. They need to understand it cant happen.

... it's the same reason a 427 SBC doesn't sound like a 427 BBC. The head architecture, firing order, resonance of the material, etc. all play into the way an engine sounds. So it's impossible to ever make an LS1 ever truly sound like an "old school chevy." My goal is just to have a more rumble/growl sound rather than the more "exotic" sound a lot of people seem to shoot for (ex: I like the sound of a flat plane crank, but wouldn't want it in my vette). To me, a vette is not an exotic sports car (it's not a Ferrari, Porsche, etc.), it's an American muscle car (mustang, camaro, charger, etc). As such, to me, it should sound like an American muscle car.

So yes, if you want to put it in simple terms, I want my C5 to sound like a mustang...

I have those on my '99 and love 'em also. Some other vetters I know just can't deal with the drone that comes along in the low (cruising) R's. Doesn't bother me. I think the sound is great when you really start pushing it and get that LS motor under some load. Best wishes!

My deal is I need to find some local c5s to listen to/ride in and find out what works/doesn't. I don't mind (tend to like) loud but CAN NOT stand drone (reverberation at cruise).

The other thing you could check out is the borla s type 2. It's zero drone and deeper than corsa for sure.

I've been through countless video's of C5 exhaust and everything I've heard is too "exotic" and tinny sounding (a V8 should sound like a V8, like a mustang). Not looking for "loud" but rather deep/roar without drone. Is there such a thing out there? I always had good luck with chambered bullet mufflers (dual exhaust, mufflers after the x-pipe) on my F-body so that's what I'm referencing.
XSPower catback. Best bang for the buck. I'll find a vid at the track...I get nothing but compliments from other drivers when coming down the front straight!
