With all the craze lately with ceramic coatings I decided to give it a shot. I did some research on pricing and to get it professionally done is not cheap, and using high end products can still be expensive. But what makes one product better then the other to justify a high cost?

Prices can vary from $50 - $300 for a product, with the more expensive coatings vendor's claim will last 5 years, and some even 10 years with little or no maintenance. A friend of mine has a shop that uses Cquartz which I believe last about 5 years, but while on youtube I came across a product called 9H Mr.Fix. The 9H referring to the hardness of the product when it cures.

Even with videos, there was much information about this product other then it's made in China, and we all know how hit or miss that can be! I started shopping around and found the product on Ebay, and bought 2 for about $25 bucks shipped which is ridiculously cheap compared to its competitors, but hey...whats the worst that can happen right!? (probably need a new paint job lol)

Anyways, the product arrived in about 5 weeks as is usually the case when coming from China. I applied it last night using the steps below:

- washed car with dish washing soap to remove oil and strip the car of wax.

- Clay bar

- Autoglym polish

- Microfiber and alcohol to remove any remaining residue.

- Applied 2 coats of 9H Mr. Fix

I only did the top, trunk, and hood as I didn't have time to finish as it was getting past my bedtime, but so far so good! The ceramic coating wiped off pretty easy compared to Cquartz which is a thicker coating. I applied to coats and the car is slick where the bottle just started to slide on the grade of the hatch lid.

The product supposed to last up to 3 years with little to no maintenance but I'll be putting it to the test to see if this is true. Overall my paint was in pretty decent condition but it definitely isn't a trailer queen, and sees active duty on road courses probably more then on the street, but hey, still want to keep it looking good. I hope to post a vid and pics tonight in case anyone is interested.

Thats the plan. The reason why I even took on this endeavor was because my car was getting blasted with debris at the track. The biggest issue was rubber flying up from cars in front of me and marking my car. The rubber would come off using autoglym tar remover but then I would have to wax that area again!

I even tried using 3M spray on paint defender clear bra on the lower part of the car, and that worked for a bit but it just doesn't hold up to the abuse and has to be removed. Hopefully this product helps!

Does this product require the surface to be UV cured like the ones with 10 year, or lifetime warranties? Or at least left in the sun?

It's not listed in the instructions per say, just mentions cure time is quicker in the sun.

What brand of coating did you use? What color is your car?

in any case, start with a clay bar, then try a mild polish. Also you can try and use an orbital machine with the polish that might get you better results. You have to he patient and may need to go over the affected area more then once. If this doesn't work, you may need to try a fine cut cleaner. Mcguires makes a decent one...however...if you do use a fine cut cleaner you will need to re-polish the area and rewax of course.

Please be careful as you can damage the paint! If all else fails or your not comfortable doing this take it to a professional!!! Cost will vary depending on what you need to correct but it is worth it!

I've contemplated using something like that coating but have heard if there's ever an issue like a scratch or whatever that needs attention, it would need to be sanded and feathered like clear coat before applying again because it drys so hard. That's why I won't do it. I'd rather just give it a good detail every few months or so. Let us know if you've heard of that and how yours is to maintain if anything.

I'm going on year 3 with CQuartz that I applied myself, and I've done a few scratch repairs that you can't tell at all. The stuff is holding up incredibly, I love it.

I just made a similar video over the weekend but haven't posted it yet. The stuff works well. I had bird droppings on my hood that had dried on the car and left for almost a week. I was able to take the hose and spray most of it off without buffing/rubbing. Then I washed the car as normal with no signs of blemishing or discoloration. But he brought up an important point that I will address as well, and that is how to apply the stuff properly...I should have that video up tonight I hope.
