I wish the antenna wouldn't go up when I pray a CD.

Installed the wire and switch yesterday with 100% success - could not have been easier - thanks for all the instructions 8VETTE7 -
kudos to you for all your help!

- 12ft of 18 gauge wire (I used lamp wire - both wires together)
- (1) switch (2 pin or 3 pin - if you want it to light up)
- 6 or so male & female wire plugs
- Wire cutter and crimper tool
- Took 1 hour from start to finish - cause I made it really neat and took my time.

Let me see...$150 for a new power antenna for a 15+ year old car (and several hours to install it)...or a few bucks in parts and 1 hour of my time to not have a power antenna get used when not needed...to extend its life... Seems worth it to me...

I would have thought so too...but last night coming home from a show, I tested that theory and left my antenna down, and my normal radio stations that I listen to were full of static until I flicked the switch and raised the antenna...and they are local stations here in the Lehigh Valley...

After I installed my double-din NAV system, I just plugged in my iPod that I wired into the glovebox and pulled the fuse for the antenna. Now the antenna stays down and I still get good reception for the local area radio stations. However, I listen to my iPod 99% of the time so radio reception really doesn't matter. Besides, music is just background noise for my Corsa exhaust convertible since I drive top down 99% of the time as well.
I never really liked the remote control toy car look.

I only listen to CD's so disconnecting the power to the motor would be fine for me ?

Here is another option I did for mine. A remote switch.
