C7Carbon | Rear Diffuser Race Edition for C5 | 3D DESIGN in development, chime in!!!
Hi Everyone, We are currently developing a new Rear Diffuser for the C5 Corvette, starting out with a digital 3D scan for the most accurate reference as possible. The Diffuser's development will take place on cutting edge 3D modeling software and 3D prints. We would love to hear your thoughts, help us build that Rear Diffuser you've always been looking for your C5!

Here are some 3D scans that we are currently working with to start out our first prototype renders:
Let's make it happen!

We need a functional aero piece; one does not exist. We have a couple fake, stick on, just for show, waxer add ons, but no real deal rear aero parts (odd, considering how these cars have dominated the club racer scene in America for almost 2 decades).
If a company were to come out with a complete package front-to-rear splitter/undertray/diffuser, there would people who would buy not just th whole thing, but parts separately as well.
The aero data from the GM factory works team suggests, that the rear bumper acts like a giant air brake by scooping up high velocity air under the car, that is why there are vented slots in the bottom of it. Everything from the front of the gearbox back needs to be capped off for functionality of the piece, and no one makes one big enough to accomplish that.

Personally I've always wished the corvette lettering wasn't fixed how it is, as I'm a big fan of stripping badging on my cars. I've looked into getting mine filled and replacing it with the emblem like the c6 for a while now. I know more than a few people have wanted to do the same.

Can the file be made available so we can render some things? Is it just going to be an attachment to the rear bumper skin, or do you want to extend it under the exhaust tips? Do you have any scans with the exhaust tips and anything ahead of the rear bumper so we can work around it?

I would like to see a subtle diffuser that isn't similar to or a remake of a C6 diffuser.
My preference would be one like either of the two options below. My first choice would be a carbon fiber diffuser similar to the one on the blue car that spans the entire width of the rear bumper. I think this would go very well with the side skirts and front splitters that are available.
If the full length diffuser is not a viable option because of the mufflers, then I think the center section only like the one on the black car, would look great as well. There is a member who had a similar one custom made. See the C5 Z06 Below.
Something similar to the Caravaggio diffuser would look good too.

You are going to get 100 different people with 100 different ideas. LOL
Personally, I think the examples shown above look too "slapped on". Adding a diffuser to the small exhaust area of a C5 just looks sloppy to me. I would much prefer a full diffuser that shrouds the entire lower valance of the rear bumper. The one that was recently offered by another vendor was a good idea, but I wasn't happy with the "fin" design or the sketchy fitment of the finished piece.
I would buy this one in a heartbeat, if the end "fins" were shorter like the center ones:

I'd love a good functional rear diffuser. The strakes are important for proper air flow.
My car rides low with drop spindles. This area would be a design concern for getting the car in/out of the trailer.
If strakes were easily removable either individually or as a panel set ...
Also need to retain access to the underside/suspension of the car for trailer tie down.
