Default C5 LED fog lights

I replaced the DRL's with switchbacks, now the fog lights on my C5 look old and dull compared to the DRL's. Where do I find LED's for the fog lights?

I would get Morimoto XB LED 70 mm for a true LED fog upgrade. That is what I currently run on my Corvette.

That’s a full replacement, right? Housing as well?

Yep. Requires a tiny bit of bending of the bracket to make it work.

I purchased a couple LED bulbs off the auction site to see how they would be. Just installed them last weekend and they fit right into the factory housings. I still need to get it out at night to see how they are but they looked much better then stock in the garage. They are the AUXITO 2x 880 899 High Power 50W CREE White LED Projector Fog Light Bulbs 2400lm if you want to look them up. I’ll try and get some pictures this weekend and post them.

You can also install 55w HIDs in the OEM projectors. They will require ballasts.

I'm definitely interested in what you did. Did you take pictures during your install that you could share? Perhaps put together a little step-by-step write up? Thanks!

I’m also curious about the functional light you ended up with. I’ve looked at Morimoto for a long time, and when I was close to pulling the trigger, I read some negative stuff about the actual improvement in visibility.

I didn't take pictures, but it was very straightforward. Probably the most difficult part was determining positive and negative on the harness and aligning the lights.

Simply put, you take out the original fog projectors, remove it from the bracket, remove the mounting bracket the Morimotos come with, and put the C5 brackets on. The holes more or less line up.

Alignment is more tricky because it has to be done on the car, and some bending of the bracket is required. Unfortunately only trial and error works here, but almost everything can be done by hand on the car. The Morimotos are slightly larger than the hole, but it doesn't really affect anything.

I actually rarely ever use my foglights, the 55 watt FX-Rs I installed on my car overwhelm the fogs. I currently have yellow Lamin-X film on my fogs, mostly to protect them until I scrape together the money to buy some racemesh screens. Then the Lamin-X will be coming off. I also have mine aimed such that the cutoff is lower than the low beams, so the reach is not very far.

I like the LED fogs mostly for the approach lights. Instant on when you unlock the car, and no potentially damaging the ballast from the flashing lights when you lock it.

Fogs only:

Low beams only for comparison:

How many LEDs are per bulb? 4 or 4/side for a total of 8?

Would the results be better if the bulb also had LEDs on the top directly facing the fog light projector's lens?

Yes! I did this many years ago.
Your OEM fogs will do a very nice job of helping you see at night as they are projectors and will throw a very nice and bright pattern of light if you put a decent set of HIDs in them.

i read where phillips has a new full led line of replacement bulbs for the C5 , save for the headlights, if you want something brand name and easy to buy or replace in the future.

i believe 4 on each side.

they're plenty bright and no issues in the time I've had them in there.

for 29.99 shipped its an inexpensive option that pops into the factory fogs vs retrofitting a different kit.

Exactly the reason I did mine that way also. Pull a bulb out, put a bulb in. Done...

they are indeed.

here's what the amazon seller link says about them; whether or not they're embellishing the numbers i'm not sure...

i'll admit, i bought them to match my LED low beams and switchbacks more than anything else but they are quite bright as advertised.

I just took some quick iPhone pics here in a lighted parking lot here at work. Not the ideal backdrop to show the car lighting but nonetheless...

My low beams are a similar LED bulb design as the 880 fog bulbs posted above. Low beams are in my lovely frog-eye housings.

Here's all of them. Inboard running lights are wired to come on w/parking switch, ignore those plz...they are a different LED setup all together.
