Welcome to the forum.
A better choice would be to post in the C5 sections.
To start you off though, try taking a look at the following links.
This post #6 shows a lot of the changes from year to year.

This thread shows a lot of common issues with C5's.

I like all the Corvettes and have had two C5's. You should try and drive a few. The differences between generations is quite big and you may find you like one generation over the others. Most in the C5 sections prefer the later C5's though ('01-'04) because of the changes over the years and the availability of replacement parts.
Good luck.

Depending on how well it has been maintained, a ‘98 can be a very good car. There are some parts availability issues with the pre-01 models. Read the stickies at the top of the page for more info.

I LOVED my 98. She had over 100K miles when I sold her.

I bought my 98 with 20K miles. It now has 145K.
Biggest repair was the clutch slave cylinder at about 75K miles at 12yoa. Everything else was just normal maintenance.
This is a daily driver/long distance commuter.

Agree with everyone else - a well maintained '98 should be a nice purchase and with continued maintenance give you many years of good service and Fun! As VJ pointed out, there can be some parts issues, though, however there unfortunately are always C5s "going to sleep" that may benefit others with their parts.

I've had a '98 for 11 years in May. Been a great car so far. The problems I've had with it were mostly self induced and easily repaired luckily.

I bought new a '98 coupe. It was a great car with minimal repairs needed. I put 82,000 miles on it in five years and really enjoyed it. I traded it in 2003 to buy a new Z06, which I still have at 160,000 miles. I totally find no reason not to recommend buying a '98, excellent choice.
